Description of the walk

Start from the car park below Bois Borgne, near the Paillote de l’Île-aux-Pies.

This walk follows much of theGR®347, marked in red and white.

(S/E) From the car park, head towards the Paillote and walk past it. Find theGR® and the cliff edge to enjoy the view of Île-aux-Pies.

(1) Follow theGR® southwards, keeping the Oust on your right as you walk above it. The track becomes wooded and crosses a side path at its end.

(2) Turn onto the cross-track and arrive at a bend. Turn right. TheGR® winds its way to a Y-junction.

(3) Turn left, then emerge onto a wide track forming a T-junction. First turn left then right. Follow theGR® to the second bend.

(4) Leave theGR® temporarily by turning left. Cross Route Val du Port and follow it to the right.

(5) Return to the red and white markings, ignoring a path turning north (which will be the return route). Reach a crossroads and follow the path furthest to the right to find the chapel.

(6) Retrace your steps. Return to theGR® and follow it to the left. Walk alongside the Oust on your left, keeping the river below you.

(5) At the fork, turn left and stay as close as possible to the river, following the red and whiteGR® markings. The river is visible below, winding its way through the trees.

(4) At the three-way junction, turn left. Retrace your steps along the path you took on the way out to return to the car park at La Paillote de l’Île-aux-Pies (S/E).

Notes

Worth a visit

Saint-Méen Chapel, founded, probably inthe 7th century, by the monks of Saint-Jean de Gaël Abbey, fell into ruin and was abandoned.
The building was rebuilt from 1965 onwards by Mr and Mrs Jean Rouxel (father and son), the Redon Celtic Circle and local residents.
Forgiveness Mass, on certain Sundays throughout the year.

A stunning view of the highest point of the cliff. A shaded path beneath the pine trees. The chapel is charming and features beautiful stained-glass windows. It is sheltered by the surrounding vegetation. To find it, you need to look out for a wayside cross located a few metres away. The walk isn’t difficult, but you mustn’t mind a bit of a slog, as there are numerous slopes, some of which are quite long. I therefore don’t think this walk is suitable for everyone. We thoroughly enjoyed discovering it.

A pleasant little walk with some interesting views of the Oust and the surrounding area. It’s also worth visiting the chapel, which is well worth a detour. A route that’s suitable for families with young children!!

A very beautiful hike, but without an IGN map I was only able to follow the red and white GR trail; the other possible routes were impossible to follow without a map and a compass

A very pleasant route that alternates between shaded sections through the woods and along paths, and views of the Oust from the cliff.
Recent tree felling (due to recent storms) means you have to take a detour around the route (it’s worth having a map or GPS).
The chapel is very beautiful and in excellent condition
