Description of the walk

The walk starts at the car park on Avenue Segond in Valensole.

(S/E) Leave the car park heading towards the village, and continue straight on along Boulevard Frédéric Mistral.

(1) Walk past the large fountain, then continue left along Rue Albert Richaud and Cours Reynaud. Walk past the Chapelle du Tholonet to reach the fountain at the entrance to the bridge over the Ruisseau Notre-Dame.

(2) Take the small road rising slightly to the right, Chemin de l'Amiral de Villeneuve, towards Chemin du Thor. Keep right at each junction until you reach the inverted Y-junction with Chemin du Thor.

(3) Carry on straight ahead, then at the T-junction, continue straight on, staying on Chemin du Thor.

(4) At the bottom of the hill, at the T-junction, turn left onto Chemin de la Pigoussette to join the D8.

(5) Turn right, then after 50 m, follow the small path on the left that runs alongside the road, join a track at the sign for "la Tuilière", and continue straight on along the old road to the end.

(6) Follow the track to the left, then turn sharply right onto Chemin de la Praire. At the bend, take the small path climbing up to the far left, which serves as a shortcut. Join the track, continue to the left and pass between the buildings at La Praire.

(7) At the T-junction, at the signpost marked "les Plaines Saint-Jean", take the track on the left known as Draye de la Partie. Join a small road at the signpost marked "Saint-Jean" and turn left, with the ruined Saint-Jean Chapel visible in the distance.

(8) At a bend in the road, as you leave the woods, take the path leading down to the left. At the bottom of the ravine, cross a track and continue straight ahead on the grassy track, then up the small path. You’ll reach a small road a few metres from the D6; turn right to join it.

(9) Cross the A-road with care and continue along the track straight ahead, Traverse de Costabelle. At the junction of several tracks, turn right then left under the power lines to reach the road to Puimoisson.

(10) Continue left and, at the road junction, turn right. Cross the bridge and take the steps on the right to reach Chemin de Saint-Claude.

(11) Turn right. At the bend, by the “Vallon de Lève” signpost, take the small road on the right towards Monaco, Chemin du Val Notre-Dame; the road turns into a track which you should follow to the end.

(12) Turn right. At the top of the hill, turn left and continue straight on until the next Y-junction. Keep left to descend to the bottom of the valley.

(13) At the “Vallon Notre-Dame” signpost, take the track leading uphill on the left. At the top of the hill, turn left again, then, at the next junction, turn right to pass in front of the Barbegiers’ buildings. Continue along the track to join the D8.

(14) Cross it carefully and continue along the track opposite. At the T-junction where two tracks meet, go straight on, cross a small road and carry on straight ahead.

(15) At the T-junction, at the “Pierre Blanche” signpost, turn left. At the end of the track, turn right towards Route de Digne. At the T-junction, continue straight ahead, passing the farm buildings, and join the D15 at the “la Croupatassière” signpost.

(16) Continue straight on towards the town centre and, at the next junction, turn right for about ten metres.

(17) At the crossroads, take the second street down on the left, Rue Sainte-Anne, to the end.

(18) Turn right and after about 50 metres, turn left onto Rue Trou d'Ago, then continue straight on to reach the junction with Rue Saint Mayeul.

(19) Turn right, then left onto Rue de l'Église and continue straight on. Walk past the church and continue straight on to Place du Marché.

(20) After the church, take the first street on the left, then turn right and go straight down.

(21) At the end of the street, turn left onto Rue de la Commodité, then continue by turning right twice. Then, go straight on to reach the large fountain.

(1) Continue straight ahead and follow the route back the way you came to reach the car park (S/E).

Between point 5 and point 6, continue straight on along the old road until the end, then follow the track to the left; in fact, you should take the first track on the left (20 metres from the end of this old road) and not take the second track on the left at the end of the road.

At point 9, you cannot take the Costebelle cross-road, as it is a private road and entry is prohibited. When you reach the D6, turn left and follow the signs for Valensole. From there, complete the second circular section of the route.

Looking for a short, gentle walk to make the most of a fairly sunny and slightly windy afternoon, we only did the southern circular loop of the trail. Relaxing and pleasant. We discovered the beautiful landscape of the plateau south of Valensole, with impressive olive groves and pretty little valleys. A route of just over 8km, a 2-hour walk with a total elevation gain of 200m – perfect for our goal for the day. On the way, we came across two dogs in an enclosure between the buildings at Prairie point 6; they weren’t aggressive when we passed by. At point 9, there was a ‘private property’ sign at the Costabelle crossroads, which we ignored without any issues.

A great website for finding ideas for hikes.
A lovely walk, especially in the sunshine at this time of year.
Thank you.

A lovely little circular loop, best done, of course, during the lavender-blooming season. Varied scenery, few people if you set off early in the morning, and on a weekday. No particular difficulties. Just a minor issue near Les Barbegiers, between waypoints 13 and 14: two rather unfriendly dogs running loose. So I went round the area via the fields. Otherwise, it was pure joy. Thanks to Visorandonneur for posting the route.

I’m sorry to ask the same question again, but I’ve already had some serious trouble following unmarked paths!

Hello, is the trail marked or not? Does it cross any private property? Thanks
