The western flank of the Aiguilles de Chabrières

The walk starts at the Chorges station car park

(S/E) Cross the N94 at the pedestrian crossing (traffic lights). Then turn right onto Avenue des Martyrs and continue via Grande Rue until you reach Rue des Eguières.

Carry on straight ahead along the Grande Rue, then the Avenue d’Embrun. When the road bends to the right, look out for the path leading uphill on your left as you round the bend.

(1) Turn left; you’ll pass the cemetery a hundred metres further on. Cross the D9 and carry on towards Les Bertrands. After the houses at Pré Noyer, turn left. At the next junction with the D9, head straight on towards Les Lagiers

No signposting

(2) At the next fork, in front of a pylon, turn right onto the track towards Les Bérards; follow this track before veering left and reaching Les Lagiers about 700 metres further on.

(3) On the right-hand side of the road, as you leave Les Lagiers, you’ll see a wooden sign showing how to reach the^GR®50.
Go round the farm shed on the left, pass a tree with a sign reading ‘Private property, no trespassing’ and continue along the path leading uphill to the left. It is fairly wide and climbs steadily until it joins another path 500 metres further on, where you turn right. Ignore the first path on the left.

(4) After about a hundred metres, turn left and follow the path as it winds its way uphill to join a farm track. Carry straight on along this track. It makes a hairpin bend to the right, then, after a wide bend to the left, reaches a forest track marked^GR®50.

(5) Turn left and carry on. The track winds its way uphill, crossing other tracks, and passes close to the Forest des Lagiers. About two kilometres further on, you’ll pass close to the Forest des Barthiers.
After descending into a small valley, you’ll reach a T-junction. Turn left.

(6) After about a hundred metres, turn right onto the path running alongside the field and heading up to the hamlet of “Les Gontards”. Turn left and you’ll come to a forest track where the^GR®50turns right.

(7) Cross the forest track to take the^GRP®-marked path opposite, which becomes a track several times before reaching the hamlet of Le Haut.

(8) Cross the road and continue along the^{GRP® path}, which will cross the road twice more before joining another road.

(9) Cross the road and, immediately afterwards, follow another road, which you’ll leave after a few hundred metres to take a footpath. Cross another road and you’ll arrive at Les Thomassons.

(10) Continue eastwards along a footpath. You’ll reach a road that takes you back to Chorges on the C205, near some small blocks of flats. After an S-bend, continue downhill in the same direction along the Route du Moulin to join the ‘Bis’ road route towards ‘Gap’.

(11) Turn right towards the tourist office. At the roundabout, turn left into Rue des Eguières and walk to the Grande Rue.

(12) Turn right onto the Grande Rue, then continue along Avenue des Martyrs. At the junction, cross the N94. You have now reached the car park at Chorges station (S/E).
