(S/E) From the school car park, follow the Route de Varennes towards the village of Marchampt.
(1) Take the first road on the right leading to the hamlet of Les Jonnerys.
(2) Then head up into the vineyard, following the vineyard tracks, not all of which are shown on the IGN map. Head west, then north-west and finally north until you reach a footpath.
(3) Continue to the right, initially along the edge of the forest. Then enter the forest to reach a track running above a straight gas pipeline.
(4) Follow this track to the right downhill until you reach a junction with a reservoir.
(5) Leave the gas pipeline and take a path on the left. Continue straight on at each junction and carry on until you reach a well-marked trail (the 3 Castles Route).
(6) Turn right onto it. Continue along this signposted path, which joins a tarmac road passing above Château du Souzy.
(7) Before the hairpin bend, leave the tarmac path for a track that climbs to the right and passes above the hamlet of Les Oliviers. Continue straight on at the first junction then keep right at the next. After a right-hand bend, the track joins a road at the hamlet of Les Vayvolets.
(8) Follow the road to the right to the hamlet of Grand Saint-Cyr. At the fork on leaving the hamlet, turn right and head down to Petit Saint-Cyr. Turn right twice and continue along a track.
Return to the path you took on the way there.
(2) Follow this path to the hamlet of Les Jonnerys. Join the road to Varennes.
(1) Turn left to return to the school car park (S/E).
A walk best done using a GPS app, but definitely not with a paper map... it’s a right mess... the starting point is impossible to find, and you’re completely taken aback when you come back to the starting point!!! Impossible to find... Anyway... the walk is nice... pleasant, but ruined by trying to find the way using a paper map... until we gave up and used the GPS route... then... much simpler...
