To reach the starting point by car from Bruyères: head towards Remiremont, drive through Laval-sur-Vologne and Lépanges-sur-Vologne, then turn right towards Docelles. Once in the village, park near the church (view of the village of Xamontarupt).
Red disc markings
(S/E) Opposite the church, turn right and walk past the town hall. When you reach the right-hand bend, continue straight ahead towards Les Fermes, turn into Rue de la Rosière, then go up to the left, still towards Les Fermes (for now, follow the mountain bike markings).
At this junction, turn left and head towards the edge of the forest. You will then see the first markers (Red Disc).
(1) Turn right onto the wide south-east facing path and go around the Hermitage.
(2) Turn right and join the Ratte.
(3): Follow the road to the left. At the last house, continue along the wide path and pass three small ponds. Continue until you reach a road.
(4): Immediately turn left onto a path that avoids the tarmac. At the crossroads, continue straight ahead to the Auberge du Ruxelier.
(5): Turn right onto a path (botanical trail, sandstone rocks with shelter) and walk up the valley.
(6) You will come out onto a track: turn right. Leave the track and take a path that turns right and, further on, joins a track.
(7) You can visit the Maquis du Haut-du-Bois monument on the left. Otherwise, continue straight ahead.
(8): At the fields, turn right (residential area), then left onto the track.
(9) Shortly after entering the woods, take a path on the right: it crosses the Rapailles forest.
(10): Turn left at the bottom of the path, then right. At the end of a clearing, continue downhill into the Xamontarupt woods along a path until you reach a track.
(11): Follow it to the right until you reach a road.
(12): At the crossroads near a road, continue left for 500 metres.
(13): At the second bend, take a shortcut down into the valley on the right. At the end, take the track on the right until you reach the crossroads near a pylon.
(1): Continue along the same route as on the way there until you reach the church (S/E).
The start of the hike should be more clearly indicated.
