Description of the walk

To reach the starting point__: Cross the border at Dantxaria; at the roundabout, turn right towards Zugarramurdi. Reach the village and park in the large car park by the trinquet. This is the starting point of the hike.

(S/E) Climb the steps, then turn left onto the yellow and white-marked path towards Urdax. Follow this path, which is initially tarmac but then becomes a ‘stone and earth’ track.
Go down a few steps, cross a stream, go through (and close) a gate. You’ll reach an area with some beautiful farmhouses, still following the same markings.

(1) At the San Esteban Chapel, you can ring the bell – it brings good luck – and quench your thirst at the tap. 100m further down, you’ll reach the road.
Cross the road and head straight ahead. You’ll soon reach a farm selling cheese.
Turn left.
Follow this path which, after about 700–800m, reaches a junction with a sign; this is the crossroads of the circular path.

(2) Head up to the right then back down the path which leads to a quarry.

(3) Turn right onto a track that will take you to the Oak Tree, passing a log bridge and a small stream.

(4) Turn back towards the quarry.

(3) Turn right onto the wide path leading towards the road.

(5) Before reaching the road, take the path on the left marked with a small blue horse (you will often see this marking).
Then head up this path to the left until you reach a sheepfold, which you go round to the right.
Further up, head down this lovely path along a rocky ridge where you can see numerous cavities. Continue south to reach the first crossroads.

(2) Turn right to reach the farm and the starting point (S/E) via the route taken on the way out.

A pleasant short hike with children aged 7 to 10 who really enjoyed it (the chapel and its bell, the oak tree and its branches, the 'cave' on the way back, the playground in the village). The trails are varied and pleasant without too much mud, even though we walked them after two days of rain.
This is a short walk that can be enjoyed by all ages and can be complemented, before or after, by lunch in one of the village restaurants.

The description of the waypoints in the PDF is very well done, however the waypoint numbers in the PDF and those in the GPX track do not match.
The GPX track is flawless, making it very easy to follow the route.

A brilliant walk with just one local road to cross. What’s more, the weather was lovely. Our whole group of walkers (44 of us) was delighted. The car park at the start was great. Thank you

A new path leading to the "thousand-year-old oak" from Zugarramurdi. Previously, from Urdax... it was much harder. It’s nice to walk through the fields full of animals and along the more secluded paths. It’s fairly easy and offers lovely views. We’ll definitely be taking this path again with our children. I’m sure of it.
