Start from the car park on Rue des Jardins d'Eau (pond side) in Arques-la-Bataille.
(S/E) On leaving the car park, turn right and follow the path to the bridge over the Béthune. Turn left onto Rue Auguste Perret. Turn right onto Rue Verdier Monetti. Turn left, cross the railway line using the footpath on the left.
(1) Turn left. Cross Place de la Gare and continue along Chemin des Prairies. When you reach the pond, follow the footpath on the left for 500 m. Turn right and walk around the pond following the path.
(2) When you arrive opposite the Résidence Val de Varenne, go round it on the left until you can cross a bridge over the Varenne on the left (see photo).
(3) Turn right after the bridge. Follow the path to reach Impasse Baudelot for 20 m. Go up the stairs on the left. Cross Rue de la Libération and continue straight ahead to climb the alleyway and some more stairs.
(4) Turn right onto Rue du Bel and, 120 m further on, turn left and climb the street signposted ‘Le Château
’. Once at the top, simply walk around the Château and head back down to rejoin Rue du Bel, which you should follow down to the left.
(5) Head towards Place Pierre Desceliers. Cut across the square to the left and turn into Rue des Halles. Cross Rue de la Libération and head straight ahead into Rue des Bourguignons. Turn right into Rue Le Barrois for 60 metres and then turn left to slip between the rear of the Church of Notre-Dame de l’Assomption and the wall.
(6) Turn right into Rue Saint-Julien, then left into Rue de la Chaussée.
(1) Cross the railway line. Turn left into Rue Auguste Perret. Cross the bridge on the right over La Béthune to return to the car park where you started on the left (S/E).
