Château de Bridoire at the start of Rouffignac-de-Sigoulès

A very pleasant circular walk through vineyards, woodland and plains. The walk starts at Rouffignac cemetery but can also start at the magnificent Château de Bridoire (15th and 16th centuries - visits, games for children, etc.). Crossing the Gardonnette ford is a little tricky.

Description of the walk

Park in front of the cemetery on Route de Monbazillac, 500 m east of the village. Parking available.

(S/E) With your back to the car park, turn right onto Route de Monbazillac, which descends. At the edge of the small wood, turn left to walk alongside the vineyard and avoid the hairpin bend in the road. At the crossroads, turn right towards Le Puch.

(1) Take the path on the left between the vineyard and the woods, pass in front of a spring (former wash house) and climb the hill to the path.

(2) Turn right and join theGR®® 654 (white and red markings). Follow it to the D107, turn left onto the road and then leave it on the right, taking the path through the vineyard at Cabaroque.

(3) Turn right again, follow the path to the ruined mill and turn left.

(4) Follow the path on the right, lined on both sides by bramble bushes, and descend to the wide dirt track (not shown on the IGN map). Follow it to the left until you reach La Gardonnette.

(5) Cross the stream on the flat stones to the right of the ford and follow this pleasant path through the undergrowth.

(6) Cross the road and continue to the Château de Bridoire.

(7) Turn right onto the road that goes around the château, then leave it and head right towards La Brande.

(9) Do not take the bend, but continue straight on towards the cemetery (S/E).

Hello Brijan

It was the cemetery at the bottom of Rouffignac, as there is another older cemetery just around the church.

I have added some details about the location of the cemetery.

The trail markings need to be reviewed, as they are unclear.

The description of the hike should have specified that it was the lower cemetery in Rouffignac, as there is another older cemetery just around the church, meaning there is no car park or road to the right behind the cemetery...
The trail markings need to be reviewed, as they are unclear.
However, the landscape is very beautiful and in good weather, it is really pleasant.

Hello,
You must park in the car park at the bottom of the cemetery and not next to the church, as this is private property.

Hiking is difficult in wet weather!
Make sure you have your phone connected, because there are no signposts for a very long stretch!
The path between the vineyards is untouched. All the markers have been removed or erased!!!!
That said... best done in dry weather.

Firstly, thank you to the person who suggested this hike, which is suitable for young walkers. There are no major difficulties. The section through the woods is a bit tricky but manageable. This part of the route can be bypassed by taking the road that runs alongside it. Using the local IGN map, we left this route to go to Monbazillac, which is well worth a detour and offers the chance to see its château and communal facilities. A picnic on these heights is a real reward. Then, through the vineyards, we rejoined the original hike. The distance covered was 13 km.

I gave it a rating of "Average" for the reliability of the map route. Let me explain...
In fact, between points 1 and 2, the undergrowth was impassable (following logging, the vegetation had taken over), so we had to turn back and go up to the road, to the GR 654.
The same was true for point 4. The vegetation was too dense, so we followed the vineyard path parallel to it until we reached the woods, where it was passable, but be careful, the descent through the undergrowth is very slippery on the rocks...
Otherwise, no problems...
The ford was very nice... 5
Of course, the icing on the cake was the superb Château de Bridoire.

Hello fellow hiker,
Calm down. I have just checked all the waypoints in UTM coordinates, and they are completely accurate. The route is also completely accurate, as it comes from my GPS. When you exit onto the D 107, turn left, not right, towards COMBET, continue for about 250 metres and take the road on the right to reach waypoint no. 3. Take the dirt track between the vineyards and head towards the ruined mill about 500 metres away, then turn left towards LE PATAUD. After 150 metres, take the path on the right (waypoint no. 4). Follow this path down to the wide, slightly rutted track and turn left towards waypoint no. 5. After crossing the stream, turn right onto the very pretty path through the woods, heading towards the Château de BRIDOIRE. It's a shame you missed this route.
Best regards.

From the end of point 2, points 3, 4 and 5 cannot be found. There is no path from Cabaroque. The map is wrong! Even the trail markers no longer pass through the points mentioned in your description.
So, from the middle of point 2, when you exit onto the D 107, you must turn right and follow the GR 636-654 markings, which will take you directly to Bridoire Castle.
So, very poor information. Useless! Everything needs to be redone. And more generally on this circular, the markings are old and often damaged. It's not clear whether the local community is particularly keen to welcome hikers. It's a shame because the vineyard landscape is magnificent, the little Gardonnette valley is a real treasure trove of biodiversity and Bridoire Castle is an exceptional stop on the route!
