Leave your car at the first car park on the right in Le Hohwald after the Grand Hôtel.
(S/E) A little further up the road, turn right onto the marked Rond Bleu trail towards the Chalet du Rohbach.
After a slightly steep climb through the village streets, you will arrive under the canopy of the forest. Follow the contour lines here.
In the valley leading to the chalet, instead of following the road, turn left onto the marked Red Cross path and follow the stream to the chalet. The marked path turns left, but continue straight ahead.
(1) At the chalet, continue to the right on the blue circle until you cross the red triangle that goes up to the left.
Follow it to the Vieille Dairy Farm.
(2) From there, climb up to Champ du Feu, following the path marked by blue and red rectangles and a red circle. The red circle will veer off to the right higher up, towards La Serva. Follow it.
Exit the forest when you reach Crête des Myrtilles.
(3) Follow the road on the left, staying close to the forest. Continue on almost flat ground to reach the Tour du Champ du Feu, the highest point of the hike at an altitude of 1,100 metres.
(4) Go around the tower and cross the road to take the path marked with a red circle. Reach the Col de la Charbonnière through the forest.
(5) Cross the road and continue along the red circle trail towards Hohwald. This is where the return journey begins. Pass above the Kälberhütte farm. Descend to the crossroads and turn left onto the road that crosses the meadows. Continue to the Auberge du Hochfeld.
(6) After the open space, continue along the red circle trail. Shortly before Zundelkopf, you will come to a crossroads.
(7) Stay on the red circle marked trail to reach and admire the Andlau Waterfall.
(8) Continue eastwards to reach the Hohwald car park (S/E).
. Definitely worth doing again and again when the hostels reopen.
