Description of the walk

Start from the Jas Neuf car park (large, well-equipped area).

Access to the Jas Neuf car park:
From the village of Cruis, follow the D951 eastwards towards Mallefougasse. After about 200 m, at a junction marked by a large wooden cross, leave the D951 and turn left onto the Chemin de Saint-Pierre (a small road).
At the first tarmac junction (oratory), turn left (yellow markings). Head uphill and cross the hamlet of Saint-Pierre. Soon the tarmac gives way to a track suitable for vehicles. Ignore the paths on the left.
After about 1.4 km, you’ll reach a junction with a large tarmac sign. Turn left onto the track towards Jas Neuf (yellow markings). At the first major crossroads (elevation 855), take a track on the right. After about 500 m, the track turns left and narrows (it remains passable, however).
You will reach the Carrefour de la Sapée (triangular junction) and turn right, heading due north. Follow a sign for Jas Neuf to reach the car park (shaded spaces, tables).

(S/E) Head due north along theGRP® Tour de la Montagne de Lure, marked in red and yellow. You will soon reach the signpost for Combe de la Sapée.

(1) Leave theGRP® here and turn right onto the track that climbs gently (yellow signposting).

(2) At the junction, continue straight on (north-east) along the track. Ignore the path on the left, which is the return route. Further on, a shortcut signposted in yellow avoids a good part of the rather monotonous main track.
At the end of the shortcut, turn left and climb up to a junction (signposted “Le Cairn”).

(3) Take the track opposite (north); do not follow the direction of Cairn 2000 indicated by the sign. This will take you to a junction near the Jas en Tôle.
You can walk down slightly to explore this jas, which overlooks the Durance plain.
This sheepfold is marked on the IGN map.

(4) Turn left (north) and follow a path that climbs steeply up the slope towards the Cairn. You will reach a grassy area and continue climbing to Cairn 2000.

(5) Set off from the summit heading south-west, leaving the ascent path on your left and ignoring theGRP® trail running along the ridge. Reach the forest (elevation 1552m) and follow the path down to a junction above the Ravin de la Basse.

(6) There, a small cairn with a green mark indicates a picturesque path heading south (a shortcut that avoids the rather monotonous track). Follow this green-marked path and descend to the junction to rejoin the track taken on the way up.

(2) Take this track to the right and head down to the Combe de la Sapée.

(1) Turn left (south) to return to the car park (S/E).

No markings to climb up the metal ladder, so we stayed on the GRP for a round trip to Kern 2000. One hour on clear track and one hour on snow, sometimes deep in the woods and without snowshoes. All in all, a beautiful hike.

the proposed starting point is rather badly described, the access is actually lower because of a prohibited direction which perhaps did not exist when the pdf was created the length of the route is almost doubled.malgré cela c'est une trés belle rando, les indications du pdf sont peu fiables a mon avis merci quand meme pour la découverte

Hello,
A magnificent hike, with a stunning 360° view once you reach the cairn.
You really need to follow the route description and the track closely, as the paths aren’t easy to find and there’s forestry work going on.
We only came across two people on the whole route.
Please note that to reach the starting point indicated in the description, you’ll need to take roads that are more or less passable, and most are closed to traffic (except for authorised vehicles). It’s therefore best to park at Cruis and allow for an extra two hours’ walk.

Hello, we only came across two people in total.
We did the route in the opposite direction to the description, but with the Visorando app, I found the way back very easily. Thank you, Visorando – without you, I wouldn’t have dared to try unmarked paths that are shown on the maps. Incidentally, the return route is different from the one described.
Cairn 2000, a must-see on Montagne de Lure!

Despite the IGN 25/1000 map and the route description, I couldn’t find the path leading up to the cairn (no. 4, near the tin-roofed hut). I turned back and rejoined the GR; it seems a GPS is essential.
The view is magnificent.
As for signposting, the shortcut (no. 2) is marked in red and yellow. For the return route (no. 6), there are plenty of green markers but they are hard to see (old paint, marks often on the ground); however, it is impossible to get lost, as the path goes straight down.
Setting off from the centre of Cruis village, it took me 6 hours including a break and the return journey because I couldn’t find path (6).

The weather was glorious, with 25 cm of snow. The GPS helped me stay on track when the trail veered off the main road. It was lovely, even magical, as we made our way down through the conifers, heavy with sparkling fresh snow.

A very pleasant hike with stunning autumn colours. A wonderful view from the summit.
The GPS track is sometimes necessary.
One downside: a hunt was in progress, with blood on the track and a frightened deer.
