The Hazelle Balconies via the Simon fields

A pleasant walk, mostly along narrow forest paths, which is easily suitable for children. There’s a lovely view from the top of La Hazelle, with a bench on the first balcony and a picnic table on the second. The charming little Étang des Sangsues is the perfect spot for a leisurely stroll, and there’s also a picnic table overlooking it.

Description of the walk

From Saint-Amé/le Syndicat, turn left off the D43 towards Crémanvillers via the D243, then continue left along the Route du Haut du Tôt and right along the Rue du Moulin.
Park in the small car park on Rue du Moulin, near a shelter and the Étang des Sangsues.

Blue Ring signposting

(S/E) Head up the signposted path behind the shelter and you’ll soon reach the small Route des Champs Simon; follow it to the right for about 300 m.

(1) Leave the road and continue to the right along the signposted forest path leading to the Balcon de la Hazelle. Reach the first viewing platform (with a bench) and begin the descent, ignoring the Blue Saltire and Red Ring paths branching off to the left. Arrive at the second viewing platform at La Hazelle with a stunning view (picnic table).

(2) Continue the descent along the hairpin bend to the right, still marked with the Blue Ring, which winds through the forest to the shelter near the pond.

(S/E) Don’t miss the chance to extend your walk by walking round the very charming Étang des Sangsues (here, too, you can enjoy a picnic table overlooking the little pond) before returning to the car park (S/E).

It was quite a climb at the start, but once we reached the top we were treated to a magnificent view, and the descent took us along some lovely little paths – we really enjoyed it.
