(S) Parking in Lanthenans at the bottom of the village in front of the church. Yellow and blue signposts. Head back towards the centre of the village, passing the war memorial, and turn left into Rue de l'Abbaye. You will pass the former priory.
(1) At the village exit, at the calvary, turn left. The tarmac gives way to gravel. Continue along this path, quickly leaving the gravel road on your left. In an open space, along a futuristic Way of the Cross, you will see the Lomont wind turbines.
(2) The path leads you peacefully to the village of Hyémondans, which you cross by keeping to the right. At the first fountain, turn left and then left again into Rue de la Chambre du Moine. At the end of the village, turn right into Rue des Vignes.
(3) When the stony road begins a hairpin bend to the right, turn left onto the half-stone, half-grass path. At the water tower, continue along the grassy path that climbs up the hillside. You will enter a beautifully airy wood via a winding path that leads you under the rocks and soon to the Roche du Châtelard viewpoint (unsecured) overlooking Lomont and the Doubs Valley.
(4) At the viewpoint, continue along the path on the left (with your back to the rock).
(5) About 700m further on, look out for a sign on a fir tree on the right, which invites you to descend to the left via a small, inconspicuous path that is easy to miss. Descend gently to Sourans, following the freshly marked signs. The descent takes you through a beautiful, light forest, which is a little spoiled in early spring, until you reach a wider track that has been badly damaged by winter logging. Fortunately, a little further down, the track becomes stony and more passable.
(6) At the first houses in the village (La Goulée), turn left. Turn left again and immediately after, at No. 1 Rue de la Combe, at the foot of the calvary, go up the small tarmac road on the right to the hamlet of Le Rochet.
(7) At the waste collection point, pass to the right of the old Rochet café with its old-fashioned sign and turn immediately left into Rue de Miémont. The path becomes stony and ends in a meadow. Turn left and follow the edge of the field until you come to a forest path that leads into the woods.
(8) You will quickly reach another path, which you will follow downhill to the right, then another perpendicular path, which you will take to the left this time.
(9) One kilometre further on, at the fork with a small sign for Le Rochet on the right, turn left to return to Lanthenans through a charming little valley.
The route includes cliff-side paths and unsecured viewpoints. The paths are rocky and slippery in places. Good footwear is essential and walking sticks are recommended.
