Leave your vehicle on the Route de La Mure (D114) at Alpe du Grand Serre near the hamlet of Mollard.
(S/E) From the car park, enter the village and turn left between two houses (yellow markings along the entire route). The path crosses the village and enters the woods before crossing the Rif Bruyant torrent. It follows a gentle slope through the forest.
(1) Then pass between the stone houses of the old hamlet of Rif Bruyant. At an altitude of 1630 metres (signpost), the path turns left and leaves the route to Coiro. 100 metres further on, there is a second fork near the Refuge du Rif Bruyant.
(2) Take the left fork (the right fork will be the return route). First climb through the forest (path along the edge of the cliff), then follow the lake spillway along a series of switchbacks up the final slope that forms the pass. Finally, you will reach the flat area of the lakes.
(3) To return, take two switchbacks to reach the pass overlooking the lakes and the switchbacks on our return route.
(2) Rejoin the path you took on the way up at the refuge. The rest of the descent follows the same route, taking you back to the ruins of the hamlet of Rif Bruyant and then to the car park (S/E).
Very beautiful hike, lots of people at the lake. We did the loop. On the descent on the lake side, there are a few very narrow and steep sections. I would leave it for more experienced hikers given its length. The rest is OK
