Lake and hillsides of Lizet

To the east of Montesquiou, Lake Lizet, created to meet the water needs of Gascony, is home to numerous birds. Forming part of the Natura 2000 site, the hillsides overlooking it are among the richest and most remarkable in the Gers. As you head up through the woods, you will join the Way of St James and admire the unspoilt Gers countryside.

I really enjoyed this walk for the variety of the scenery and the stunning view down over the lake. It was the perfect route to get back into walking after a few months off.

This is a moderately challenging hike as you leave the lake very quickly. The climb up to the ridge path is quite steep… worth noting.

A lovely, varied walk: lake, forest, countryside. A nice mix that isn’t too long for a beginner like me.
