Start from the Lac des Escarcets car park, along the D558.
(S/E) From the car park, follow the departmental road to the left until you come to a small tarmac road that descends towards the vineyards.
(1) Admire the pretty Verrerie bridge over the Aille river and take the Tuilière track that goes up the river (you are allowed to make a few detours to enjoy the rocky banks). At a crossroads in the middle of the vineyards, leave the track and head down towards the river.
(2) At the foot of a very large pine tree, climb up the grassy embankment and follow the stream "Le Mourrefrey" and its red rocks to the left (if you look carefully... and are lucky, you may spot a turtle!).
(3) When the embankment ends, walk along the vineyards and join a track that you will need to take to the right.
(4) When this track (which sometimes merges with a stream bed) meets another track at right angles, turn left towards La Garde-Freinet (you can take a few steps to admire the Mourrefrey ford).
(5) Continue until you reach the Aurèdes track, which you should also follow to the left.
Just stay on this track to reach the Escarcets reservoir.
(6) The paths and tracks that branch off to the left lead gently to the car park via the Tire track (S/E).
Moderator's addition on 22/11/2021 Hike currently impossible due to a fire and the need to preserve nature. See comments at the bottom of this page.
