(S/E) From the Orgère refuge car park, head north on the almost flat track. After one kilometre, just before a large bend, turn left.
(1) Follow a steep path that runs along the right bank (in the direction of the current) of the Povaret stream. Soon, a small sign indicates that you are entering the Vanoise National Park; there will be no other signs or indications for a long time.
This trail is only marked by dashes on the IGN map.
Follow the stream upstream and, once the slope becomes less steep and the horizon opens up, turn left.
(2) Join the official trail, which can be seen heading north-northwest.
(3) This trail, marked as a variant on the IGN map, will soon join theGR®55coming from the Polset valley at point 2503m.
(4) A small sign indicates the Lac de la Partie lake 15 minutes away. Follow theGR® trail leading to the Col de Chavière and turn off at the next sign indicating the lake 5 minutes away.
(5) Descend to the lake, walk around it, then climb back up to rejoin theGR® and follow it in the opposite direction until you reach the intersection that indicates the direction of Polset.
(4) Take the long descent along this path, which is theGR®55. Shortly after the Source du Vin, it enters a coniferous forest.
The trail is now less steep and more comfortable.
On the descent, you pass above the chalets of Plan du Say on the banks of the Saint Bernard stream.
Further down, the trail splits in two. A sign indicates the services of an inn called L'Estiva, which can be reached by taking either branch.
(6) Take the left fork, which is a short, steep descent, then a peaceful walk through meadows. Above the hamlet of Polset, rejoin the main path at the exit of the village and immediately after, take theGRP® variant that indicates the Orgère refuge at 45 minutes. Be careful not to descend to the road.
(7) This good path, which sometimes becomes a track, will lead you to the D106.
(8) Cross the D106 to rejoin a good track below the road. Pass above the pretty Pierre Brune chalet and a lovely drinking water spring. This will take you to theGR®5, where there are now numerous signposts. You will soon reach the car park (S/E).
