Description of the walk

Depart from the car park at Machault Town Hall, at 24 Rue des Trois Maillets or opposite 5 Rue de Villiers.

N.B. Do not be concerned by the numerous markings, which change colour regularly. Stick to the route on the map and the description.
The (*) symbols refer to the section "During the walk or nearby".

(S/E) Leave the car park on the opposite side to the town hall, going from the wine press (*) to the boules court. Join Rue de Villiers and follow it to the left. At the junction with Rue des Trois Maillets, take Rue de Champagne opposite. Shortly before the village exit (small square with a bench), turn right onto a path. Continue straight ahead (south-west) until the path turns sharply right towards a copse and joins a larger path.

(1) Follow this wide path straight ahead, then turn right towards the farm (the path is not private). Turn left in front of the farm and continue straight ahead to the Croix de Boissy and the junction with the D227.

(2) Cross the road carefully and continue straight ahead. Atthe first crossroads in Féricy, turn left just after the water tower, onto Route de Fontainebleau. Immediately after, turn right onto Chemin de Champagne. At the end, turn left onto Rue de la Fontaine. Cross a small wood and you will arrive at the spring building (*).

(3) Continue straight ahead to see the wash house on your right. Walk to it, then turn back on the other side of the spring building. At the north-east corner, you will see the basin where the trees are growing. Then turn left, heading north. Ignore a path on the right and head north-west. At the end of the path, turn right and you will come out onto the D107 road.

(4) Follow the road to the right. Just before the cemetery, turn left along the castle wall. At the corner of the wall, turn right. Continue straight ahead and pass to the right of the water treatment plant. At the end, follow the path to the right to reach the church of Fériciy.

(5) Admire the church, the castle (municipal) and the Sainte-Osmane spring. Take Rue de l'Église eastwards. Pass in front of the Sente des Prés du Four and the church farm and continue to Rue de Lorette. Follow this street to the left, then Rue de Montceau to the right. Cross the hamlet of the same name and go to the crossroads with Rue du Bon Puits (bench and fountain).

(6) Then take the path on the left and begin the descent into the woods. Next, take thefirst marked path on the right. Reach the edge of the woods and continue straight ahead until you reach the small road. Follow this road to the left. Descend to the Pont de Vallerand bridge over the Ru de la Vallée Javot stream (*).

(7) Just after the bridge, leave the road and take a marked path opposite. This soon turns left and heads north. The path runs alongside the road and then joins it: follow the road north. When the road turns left, take thesecond path on the right into the woods (north-east). Follow this path (Route de la Gennerie) to the Mare du Merisier roundabout (*).

(8) Then take thefirst path on the right. In dry weather, you can take the path that descends into the pond. Set off again on the path 90° to the right of the one you arrived on, heading south-east. When you leave the woods, turn left across the fields. Just before the woods opposite, turn right at a 90° angle. At the entrance to the woods, take the path on the left and go downhill. Find a small road and follow it to the right. You will arrive at the bridge over the Ru de la Vallée Javot.

(9) Continue straight ahead and go up the road to cross the hamlet of Villiers to No. 1 Rue de Villiers with, on your left, the Place du Puits and the apple mill wheel (*).

(10) Immediately afterwards, turn left onto Rue de Bailly and follow it downhill until you reach a wash house on the right (*). Continue straight ahead. At the T-junction, turn left and go downhill. You will arrive at the bridge over the stream.

(11) Continue along the path that climbs up to the right above the stream. Continue until you pass under the high-voltage power lines.

(12) At the crossroads under thefourth line , take the path that descends to the right. Cross a stream on a footbridge and go up opposite into the woods. Then walk along the woods on your left. Follow the main path that turns right and then left between the fields. At the end of the path, first turn right then left to reach the cemetery and walk along it on your right.

(13) At the corner of the cemetery, follow a road to the right. Take thefirst left at the cross, Rue du Canal des Trous. At the end, follow Rue des Trois Maillets to the right until you reach the church in Machault.

(14) Continue straight ahead on Rue des Trois Maillets until you reach the town hall (schools). When you reach the town hall, turn right into the passageway and head towards the car park (S/E).

Worth a visit

(S/E) Car park: The wine press belonged to the lords of Chapuis-Villiers, owners of the Villiers farm and the Château de Chapuis in Pamfou. It was therefore an important source of income for the lord, as most of the local peasants were winegrowers.

(3) Source of the Fontaine Ory and wash house.

(5) Sainte-Osmane Church (13th-16th century).

(7) Vallérand Bridge over the Ru de la Vallée Javot, more commonly known as Ru Vallée Javot. This is a stream with a very unpredictable course, dry for much of the year, hence the numerous fords.

(8) Mare aux Merisiers, where 23 bald cypress trees form a crown. Dependent on wetlands, bald cypress trees develop pneumatophores, vertical protuberances that capture oxygen that is absent in marshy environments. The soft green deciduous leaves turn tawny in autumn before falling. Native to the south-eastern United States, they were introduced to Europe in 1640, but mainly under Napoleon.

(10) The apple crusher was attached to the grape press in the car park. It remained in Villiers, Place du Puits, where it is on display with its large sandstone millstone and roller track.
- Rue de Bailly: The wash house was built around 1910 to replace a previous wash house located a little further up, which had never been covered. Both were supplied with water by a pipe from the well in the square.

(14) Saint-Vincent Church (12th-16th century).

A pleasant and varied hike through small villages, fields and forests
plenty of heritage to see (churches, wash houses, beautiful residences)
the route is easy to follow except at point 12 (be careful to take the small path to Bailly) and further on to reach point 13

Very precise directions for the hike. At point 12, there is a small path that is not very easy to find and has quite a few brambles at the entrance (bring pruning shears), even though it has been cleared halfway before the bridge (thank you).
A beautiful and varied hike with the opportunity to see areas occupied by livestock, small game and birds.

Hello
Nice walk, very pleasant and varied landscapes, woods, fields and villages.
I have the same comment as Krando 94 about the little path to the right at point 12.
My friends and I really enjoyed this walk.

A very pleasant and rather varied hike.

However, as mentioned in other comments, the small path at point 12 (I forgot the name, but there is a sign indicating that it exists — which is useful because you might doubt its existence when you see the entrance in the dense vegetation...) can be difficult to navigate: it is quite narrow and quickly overgrown (including large brambles). It's probably a good idea to carry a pruning knife (or even a small machete) in your rucksack. I cleared some of it as I went along, but I think it grows back quickly (@Jihela, who seems to have passed by only four days after me, doesn't seem to have seen the results anymore).

A very pleasant hike alternating between fields, woods and villages.
We extended the route by going around "Le Montceau" and making a detour via Fontaine Ory. We came across partridges, pheasants and hares, and even a viper basking in the sun in the middle of the path at point 12. From there to the bridge over the Ru, the PR had not been used for a long time: the vegetation, brambles and hawthorns, was very dense, almost impassable without getting scratched and stung abundantly.

A very parish specific to Brittany, varied, and compared to last year at the same time, the trails are not muddy.
There is quite a bit of shade along the route, except at the beginning
I didn't see the crushing mill on the well square at point 10

A very pleasant route through the Briarde countryside, with a friendly chat in Montceau with a farmer who explained his work to us, and several encounters with animals (deer, pheasants, etc.), and even a viper in the middle of digesting its meal, guarding the entrance to the path (point 12) in the middle of the undergrowth. We then reached the finish via the path that branches off to the left between 11 and 10. There were a few muddy sections along the way, but nothing insurmountable. We took a coffee break on the parapet of the Vallérand bridge (7) with a pleasant view of the valley and no traffic.

a pleasant hike, with a varied route offering beautiful views, forests and pretty villages in the Brie region.
Quite a few sections are exposed to the sun. Best done when it's not too hot.
If the 13.53 km scare you, you can shorten the route by 3 kilometres from Villiers at point 10
by taking Rue du Four and then continuing straight on to the starting point.

We would have liked to find tables and benches near the Merisiers sea.
It should be noted that the sea was completely dry.

Best regards:

A very beautiful hike. Not difficult. You can easily take a group there. The history of the valley is enriching.

nice hike, but not to be done in the sun.
there's a big problem at point 12, so bring secateurs, a brush cutter, a scythe or something similar, as the path is already well hidden and impassable with all these thorny plants and shrubs that scratched my legs (unfortunately, I was wearing shorts)

The route varies with some elevation changes and beautiful views.
Unfortunately, it was parish specific to Brittany muddy that day, especially in the last 3 kilometres.
Best done on a sunny day

We set off from Héricy station and joined the route at point 4, following the GRP.
A pleasant hike with heritage sites and countryside views on good paths, except at point 12 where brambles overgrow the first half of the trail.
At the Machault sports ground (opposite the cemetery), there are picnic tables, including one under a shelter with a drinking fountain.
The Machault bakery is closed on Tuesdays and the grocery store closes from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
