Description of the walk

Departure from Fontaine-le-Port station, coming from Paris – Gare de Lyon, R train, towards Montargis.

(S) From the station, turn left onto Quai René Richard (D39) towards Héricy. At the stop sign, continue straight on for about 100 metres.

(1) Turn left into the tunnel under the railway line , then turn right onto Rue de la Vieille Montagne. Cross the bridge over the Ru de Châtelet and, immediately afterwards, turn left, following the river. You’ll see Fontaine-le-Port Town Hall on your right, and you’ll come out onto a road. Cross the road and continue almost directly opposite along a barely visible path that climbs and runs alongside the stream until you reach a cross-path.

(2) Turn right, then come out onto a small road (Chemin des Chasses). Follow it to the end, turn right and then left about fifty metres further on to follow Rue des Sablons to No. 22. Continue along the path opposite. Walk past the water tower on your right and carry on straight ahead until you reach a junction.

(3) Carry on straight ahead along Rue de la Forêt and follow the path through the woodland after the last house.

(4) Cross the road, go through the gate and immediately turn right onto a footpath. Follow the PR® sign downhill and then along the hillside until you reach a fork in the path.

(5) Head down to the right until you reach a road. Turn left, cross the bridge over the Ru de la Gaudine and you’ll soon come to a path on the right.

(6) Take this path, passing between fields, and, once on the plateau, head right to make your way to the edge of the forest.

(7) Continue straight on through the woodland, carry on along the tarmac road, and reach the end of Chemin du Cormier. Turn left, then right, onto Rue de la Cave Sainte-Geneviève. Note the Cave Sainte-Geneviève opposite. Cross a road, then head left to cross the railway line and reach Sainte-Geneviève Church.

(8) Continue to the right as far as No. 73 Rue de Barbeau, then turn left onto Rue du Fossé Chevalier to reach the banks of the Seine.

(9) Turn left and follow the river along Cours Robert Cornille. Pass the Stade Pierre de Coubertin and the Centre Équestre l’Odyssée, directly beneath the high-voltage power lines, and continue along the Seine via the Promenade Stéphane Mallarmé. Walk past the Musée Stéphane Mallarmé and join a path on the right, a few metres before a junction.

(10) Take this path, go under the bridge over the Seine, then carry on straight ahead along the towpath.

(11) At the Pièce du Bac and the Espace André Millet, turn left onto Chemin de l’Abreuvoir. At the end, turn left again, go round the Church of Saint-Pierre and continue until you reach a three-way junction.

(12) Turn right onto Rue Grande, go under the railway bridge, then past the Samoreau primary and nursery school.

(13) Turn right onto Rue Montmélian, then left onto Rue du Rocher and head for No. 18. Take the narrow lane on your right, almost opposite Rue des Cerisiers. You’ll come out onto a road; carry on straight ahead and enter the woodland.

(14) When you reach the high-voltage power lines, turn left and then pass underneath them about 300 metres further on. Cross the woodland and carry on straight ahead, following the GR®2, ignoring any other paths. You’ll arrive at the Rocher de Samoreau.

(15) Turn left and reach a road.

(16) Cross the road, continue straight ahead, passing some picnic tables and a car park before quickly reaching the D39, which is called Avenue des Acacias here.

(17) Cross it carefully, head straight ahead and walk for about 200 m.

(18) Take the path on the right, then continue left into the woods until you reach a fork.

(19) Turn right and, at the crossroads, continue straight ahead along the Chemin des Arches. Carry on along the Route des Poiriers until you reach No. 44. Then take the path on the right and head down to the road below. Follow it to the right, cross the level crossing and you’ll reach Champagne-sur-Seine station on your right (E).
