The Clérette Valley and Queue du Renard

This route starts in Montville, passes through Anceaumeville and takes us to Mont-Cauvaire through the woods and the Clérette valley. As you pass through the Raimbourg Farm, owned by the municipality of Mont-Cauvaire, you can see its famous double bread oven, which dates from the early 19th century and can be used to bake bread on one side and pastries on the other.

Description of the walk

Parking and departure from the André Martin swimming pool car park.

(S/E) Opposite the swimming pool, head straight ahead, turning right, and cross the bridge to enter the Espace de Loisirs. At the Espace Jean Loup Chrétien, turn right, keeping the mini-golf course on your right. Head towards the old manor house directly opposite, pass in front of it and continue to the exit. Continue along the lane opposite, with the fire station on your left, and at the post office, turn right and continue to the road.

(1) Turn left (Rue Winston Churchill), ignoring Rue de la Gare on your left. At numbers 70 and 72 on your right, take the small tarmac path opposite to walk between the houses. At the road, first turn left then right, entering Résidence les Chatenières, Rue François Leblanc and continue to the give way sign. Turn left onto Route de Montville (on IGN, Rue des Cambres), towards Anceaumeville. Pass under the railway bridge and continue to the first right turn.

(2) Turn right onto an uphill path, pass under the power lines and follow this path to the hamlet of Le Plix. At the T-junction, turn right onto Chemin du Parquet du Plix, ignore the path opposite and follow the road. At the end of the road, continue straight ahead on a sloping path and descend to a T-junction.

(3) Turn left (Route des Chatenières), ignore a turn-off on the right and continue to the stop sign. Turn right onto Route du Chouquet and descend to the T-junction at the pumping station.

(4) Continue left (Route de la Clérette) and immediately turn right onto the grassy path. Go up the hill and at the Y-junction, take the left fork. Continue straight ahead on the tarmac road (Chemin des Bruyères) until you reach the T-junction with the Anceaumeville sign on your right.

(5) Continue straight ahead until you reach the first Y-junction at the church. Turn right (Route du Bocasse), then ignore Clos du Colombier on your right and arrive at Chemin de la Robinette on your right.

(6) Take this road and, after the tarmac, continue straight ahead on a grassy path. Follow this path downhill to a T-junction. Turn right and go through the tunnel under the railway line. At the road (Route des Moulins du Tôt), turn left and proceed with caution for about 300 metres until you reach No. 555 on your left.

(7) Cross the road carefully and continue straight ahead on Chemin de la Pérelle, which is paved. At the end of the paved road (the IGN map is incorrect here), ignore the path on the right and continue straight ahead, uphill. Follow this path, ignoring the paths branching off to the right and left, until you reach a T-junction.

(8) Turn right (Chemin du Val au Roy), then continue along the tarmac road until the next intersection.

(9) Turn right and continue to the stop sign. Turn right again onto Rue Placide Alexandre, and a few metres further on, turn right into the courtyard of Ferme Rainbourg , where you will find a double bread oven, which is worth seeing. Cross the courtyard, turning left, facing the house, and take the path just after the small gates on the left. Follow this path to the field and turn left onto the path to rejoin the road.

(10) Continue straight ahead (Route du Mesnil), walk for about 900 metres and you will reach a path on the right with a pond.

(11) Turn right onto this path (post with GR® and blue markings). At the entrance to the woods, follow the blue markings. At the Y-junction, at the Sierville SIAEPA water catchment, turn left. Ignore a path on the right and continue for about 1,700 metres until you reach the tarmac road (Rue de Gruchy).

(12) Continue straight ahead until you reach the first X-junction. Cross the road and continue straight ahead on Rue Legrelle, against the traffic, until you reach the next intersection, Rue Winston Churchill. Turn left, pass in front of the town hall and continue towards the church to reach the swimming pool car park (S/E).

A lovely, undulating route at this time of year (with the woodland in bloom).
Passes by Raimbourg Farm, a lovely spot with a double bread oven; picnic tables are available on weekdays, but rarely at weekends (as the lodge is often booked).
