Park in the car park on Rue du Général De Gaulle (free for 2 hours) near Rue des Halles.
(S/E) Take Rue des Halles, then turn right between the moat and the car park. Head left down Venelle de la Courtine and come out onto Rue de la Montée de l’Éperon. Turn right onto this road for a few metres until you reach the junction with a footpath.
(1) Take the path on the left, following the left bank of the Sèvre Nantaise as far as the Moulin de Plessard.
(2) Pass the mill and the water sports centre and continue along the path towards the Hellfest site. Turn right towards the Pont de l’Arsenal.
(3) At the bridge, head up to the right towards the village of Fouques. At the restaurant, turn left, then left again into the cul-de-sac. At the end, rejoin the path which descends once more towards the Sèvre and the Grotte de Lourdes. Pass it and zigzag your way up to La Grenotière, then join the road.
(4) Zigzag right then left here to set off along the dirt track. At the crossroads, veer left onto the path leading to a housing estate in Cugand.
(5) Turn left and head down towards the road. Cross the road and head towards the Gaumier fulling mill (wool processing).
(6) Turn right back towards the road (no path visible on the IGN map at this point), join the departmental road, then head left in single file to cross the Sèvre bridge and enter the Loire-Atlantique department.
(7) Before the roundabout, turn left towards the car park. Follow the road up to the wayside cross, then turn left towards Terbin to reach the canoe centre.
(8) Follow the path back to the Arsenal bridge. Cross the bridge and turn right.
(3) Pass the Hellfest headquarters and the Plassard mill, then rejoin Rue de l’Éperon by following the same route as on the way there.
(1) Walk up the street along the footpath; on the right, Rue Jean Prigent leads back to the car park (S/E) via the pavement. You’ll arrive near one of the castle’s towers, feeling refreshed and with a feast for the eyes.
