Departure from the Orval Abbey car park.
Blue rectangle markings.
(S/E) From the car park, go around the Hostellerie d'Orval and take a small path on the left that runs alongside the main road. A few metres further on, a large sign marks the start of the hike. Continue along the path heading north-west and you will reach the field with Highland cows.
(1) At the first crossroads at the start of the meadow, continue to the left and walk along the field. At the end of the field, continue to the left and cross a small bridge. You will come to a fork in the road with a large signpost and some benches.
(2) Continue to the right and enter the forest. Pass a trail on the right (return trail) and begin climbing the track that turns left.
(3) At the crossroads at the end of the climb, turn right to join a forest path.
(4) Pass the trailhead on the right and continue straight ahead on a long stretch of forest path. From time to time, small blue rectangular signs indicate the correct path. At the end of the forest path, pass several holiday homes and reach a fork.
(5) Turn right until you reach the next fork.
(6) Continue straight ahead and reach the small French village of Williers. After a few hundred metres through the woods, you will see the road and the sign for the village of Williers (on the border between France and Belgium). Take the long climb that marks the entrance to the village of Williers (admittedly a bit tiring, but we promise it's the only one).
(7) At the end of the climb, turn left and head towards the village's central square, where the church is located.
(8) Below the church, to the right of it, take a small path next to a house. The path descends quite steeply and leads to the entrance to the village.
(6) At the bottom of the descent, you will come to the fork again near the restaurant "Le Chameleux". Turn right and take the path you took earlier. Follow the same route as on the way there until you reach the path through the woods on the left.
(4) Turn left onto the small path that runs alongside the stream, then rejoin the route you took on the way there in front of the large sign and benches near the field with Highland cows.
(2) Leave the route you have already taken and continue along the track to go around the field. Continue straight ahead for a long distance. At the end of the path, turn left to reach the Orval Abbey car park (S/E).
