Car park in Cussey-sur-Lison, in front of the church.
Yellow-blue markings and "Circular route of the cliffs" signpost depicting a hare
(S/E) Enter the parish enclosure to admire the beautiful Saint-Christophe church up close. Go around to the back for a glimpse of the old presbytery. Return to the street and continue right towards the village centre, passing a beautiful turret with its slate roof. On the house opposite, there is a wooden sundial dating from 1869.
Turn right onto Rue du Chalet, stopping at the house on the corner to admire its beautiful old doors and stone lintels, one dating from 1775 and the other from 1789. Leave the village and walk alongside a deer enclosure for about 600 metres.
(1) Turn left, about fifty steps after the end of the enclosure, onto the forest path that climbs the hillside, running along the other side of the enclosure to reach the foot of the cliffs. Shortly afterwards, the path forks at the foot of a signpost.
(2) Head right towards the Croix viewpoint. You will soon reach a path. Continue to the right until you reach the viewpoint overlooking the Cussey-sur-Lison valley: to the left is Mont Mahoux, opposite is the imposing silhouette of Mont Poupet, and to the right are the beautiful cliffs of the reculée.
Turn back.
(2) Continue straight ahead towards the Belvédère de Chaux viewpoint. You will cross an open area, continuing along the path opposite, which joins a wide stone path much further on.
(3) Turn left. Then left again at the nearby fork. About 700 m further on, don't miss the short path on the left leading to the Chaux viewpoint overlooking the entire valley and the village.
(4) Continue on to the open space and picnic tables (which are quite dilapidated). Go around them to reach a fork in the road.
(5) Descend to the left along the beautiful stone path. After about 500 metres, just before a pasture, you will see a small wooden staircase on the right leading down to some small waterfalls. A signpost with a hare will indicate the way.
(6) Go down the wooden steps on the right. You will reach the village by walking through the valley and along the Goulue stream. When you cross it via a footbridge, enjoy the beautiful view of the cliffs. The Goulue has its source at the bottom of the Cussey-sur-Lison valley and crosses the village via a small canal spanned by several small bridges.
At the entrance to the village, note the farmhouse, which still has its slate roof. You will arrive at the wash house and the town hall. Turn left towards the centre, then right to find the church (S/E).
