Departure from Place du Foirail in the heart of the village. Free parking available.
(S/E) Opposite the village hall, turn left towards the end of the square. Take the footbridge over the Truyère river and follow the road that runs alongside the tennis courts, the football pitch and then the sports hall.
(1) After passing the imposing building, take the small path opposite, which runs alongside the campsite and swimming pool on the left. Follow the fence until you reach a small tarmac road.
(2) Turn right and go straight up the road towards the Ganigal Holiday Village. Walk along this group of cottages on your right, then cross the road carefully towards the forest. Walk uphill for about a hundred metres and continue on the track on the right (ignore the yellow markings that cross the path with a cross).
(3) At the end of the path, take the track going up to the left, parallel to the road to Saint-Chély d'Apcher. After 200 metres, continue uphill on the stony path on the left. Continue to a large crossroads, ignoring the small paths on either side.
(4) Turn right. The track joins a small car park (at the end of which is an orientation table) and then leads onto the D989 on the left.
(5) Cross the road carefully to reach the hamlet of Ortizet. At the first house, continue right on a small path and you will come to a crossroads (a wayside cross hidden in the bushes below on the right).
(6) Continue to the left, then turn right at the next intersection towards the Romanesque church of Saint-Pierre-le-Vieux.
(7) At the Croix de Saint-Pierre, cross the D4 with caution to reach the medieval site by following theGR®4.
(8) Walk past the cemetery and then the church on your right and enter the thicket via a small marked path: Porte des Fées. Pass close to Roc de Coudougas and then follow the stairs leading to Porte des Fées.
Climb up the rocks to the right of the "gate". Be careful, as the path is steep and slippery in wet weather. Follow a single track to the plateau and the back of the church, which you will go around on the left. Return along the same route to the Croix de Saint-Pierre.
(7) Turn left onto the D4. Follow the road for about 250 metres, then take a small track on the right leading to the Rosière cross. Be very careful, as this small path into the woods is poorly maintained and therefore difficult to see from the road at the start of the season if you are not paying attention.
(6) After passing the granite cross, take the path on the left that descends into the woods to join the D4. Cross carefully and continue straight ahead on the Espagnols path (GR®4), which descends steeply. Then take the pretty bridge on the left that crosses the Truyère and head towards the entrance to the village. At the "rond-point de la bête" (roundabout of the beast), marked by statues depicting an attack by the famous Gévaudan beast, turn right onto a small path that runs between the houses. Cross the Béal ford and then a series of old gardens to reach the Place du Foirail, the starting point of this route (S/E).
