Pointe du Diben via Saint-Samson and Tromelin

Pointe du Diben: a classic section ofthe GR®34coastal path, offering gradual views of Morlaix Bay and its many islands and peninsulas.

Magnificent views stretching as far as Île de Batz and Roscoff, with landscapes that change completely depending on the tide, the colour of the sky and the light.

Beautiful residences on the return route along fields and sunken lanes.

Description of the walk

The starting point is at Le Diben, in Plougasnou. At Le Diben, head towards the port and, at the top of the hill, turn right onto Rue des Forces Françaises Libres, which leads down to a car park and a service area for motorhomes.

The first half of the route, along the coast, follows theGR®34trail. Follow theGR® markings.

(S/E) Take the coastal path that heads north-west, 50 m before the service area. Follow theGR® which rejoins the Port de Diben, then heads west again. Pass the Port Blanc beach.

(1) At Pointe Annalousten with its beautiful panorama, continue along the path which then heads south. Pass Guerzit Beach.

(2) After Pointe de Perhérel, pass Saint-Samson Beach. At the hotel residence near the beach, you can cross the beach and rejoin the trail immediately afterwards on the left.

(3) Further on at Pointe de Saint-Samson, the coastal path is a little rough. You can avoid the point by turning left before the pine grove. From this point, you can see the houses of Pointe de Térénez to the south. Continue along the path towards Térénez.
About halfway between Pointe de Saint-Samson and Térénez, a path branches off to the left between two fields. The path is bordered by embankments and climbs eastwards towards the hamlet of Cosquer (altitude 10).
Please note: make sure you spot the start of this path, which is surrounded by tall ferns depending on the season.

(4) Leave the coastal path and take the path on the left that climbs up to Le Cosquer. (TheGR® markings end at this point).
The path quickly becomes a sunken lane.
After the first houses in Le Cosquer, you will see the façade of the Manoir du Cosquer on your right. Join the road and turn right to reach the main entrance of the manor house.

(5) At the manor entrance, turn left onto the gravel road between the fields, which joins the Kervébel asphalt road 300 metres further on. At the T-junction, turn left towards the hamlet of Porspoën.
Further on, the road curves sharply to the right and heads east. At the houses in Porspoën, just before a bend in the road to the left, you will come to a Y-junction with a farm track on the right (with recycling bins).

(6) At this junction in Porspoën, take the track on the right that runs between the fields. At the next junction, turn right for 20 metres, then left to continue towards the houses of La Villeneuve - Kernevez. Note the beautiful granite cross on the left of the road. You will reach the crossroads at the houses of La Villeneuve - Kernevez, with a farm track starting on the left at the farm.

(7) Take the farm track on the left heading north-east. At the next junction, continue left. You will then come to the Kerangroaz crossroads (calvary on the right). Turn right and follow the road for 350 m until you reach another crossroads where a road branches off to the right and a farm track to the left, towards Kericuff. (altitude 56).

(8) At the Kericuff crossroads, turn left onto the farm track that climbs north-west between the trees.
Further on, after a steep descent, the track joins the Milin Névez farm on the right. Do not enter the farm, but immediately turn left onto the farm track ahead.
After 150 m, halfway up the slope, before reaching the plateau, a path branches off to the right before the crops. Please note: look carefully for the start of the path, which is sometimes hidden by ferns.

(9) Take the path on the right, which gradually descends into the undergrowth. It overlooks a first mill on the right, then heads north to arrive opposite the main entrance to the Manoir de Tromelin.

(10) Go around Tromelin Manor on the right and further on join the departmental road (D46a2) which leads to Le Diben.
Follow it to the left and walk along Anse du Diben.

(11) At Le Diben, after the first houses on the right, turn right onto a path that leads to the cove and allows you to climb up on the left into the narrow streets that lead to the service area (S/E).

A lovely walk in the sunshine along a stunning hillside. Very quiet at the end of March.
Everything went well up to point 9. But at point 9, we couldn’t find the path; perhaps it was overgrown, as it had likely not been used much during this rather damp winter
We walked through the fields and climbed the slopes covered in brambles, but we had great difficulty finding a passable path. We did see paths marked on the IGN map, but they were impassable (overgrown vegetation, fallen trees). It’s a shame to have ended on this note at the end of the route!

We started at Guerzit beach and ended up on the coast. A very beautiful and varied hike (land and sea). GPS used to leave the GR (point 4).

A very beautiful hike, the Breton coast is there, magnificent! No difficulty, just let yourself be carried away by the beauty of the scenery!
The return journey from point 4 is less interesting, but that doesn't detract from the pleasure of walking along the seafront!
Best done when the tide is not too low!

Without GPS, it's not always easy; you can get lost. Other routes are not maintained; the ideal solution is signposting.

This is a very interesting route, both along the coast (magnificent views of Morlaix Bay and beyond) and in the countryside (manor houses, mills), even if the coast seems more attractive. On the coastal path, it is essential to have good footwear as there are some very stony sections. Be careful at point 4 when leaving the coastal path, as we passed it without seeing it. When we retraced our steps, we noticed that the entrance to the path was almost blocked by ferns, which are very tall at this time of year. Look for a kind of hedge that rises up and leads you into the undergrowth. Once you leave the coastal path, there are no signposts, but the directions and the map are sufficient to take you in the right direction. Between points 8 and 9, be sure to read the directions carefully when you arrive at the mill, as it is very tempting to go straight ahead. Point 9 is a small path on the right halfway up the slope, which is also almost hidden by vegetation. Keep the river in mind and keep it on your right, as this small path descends towards it. My GPS app gave me a distance of 13.2 km, which is one kilometre more than indicated (not counting our detour past point 4).

Very beautiful hike, everything is there: the setting, the route.
The only downside is that the Bernenez cairn is closed on Mondays
so avoid the extra 4 km detour or you may be disappointed.
Another concern is that there are a lot of mountain bikes in certain areas of the route.
