The Pointe de Loguivy de la Mer

From the port of Paimpol, once famous as the departure point for the Grand Cod Fishery with the Terre-Neuvas, and now known for its "Sailors' Songs" festival, we set off for Pointe de l'Arcouest, where the pier for the Île de Bréhat is located, and then on to Loguivy-de-la-Mer. We leave the shores of the English Channel for the mouth of the Trieux. Finally, after crossing the Pointe, we return to Paimpol to explore its pedestrianised streets.

Description of the walk

Throughout this walk, simply follow theGR®®34to go round the Pointe du (S/E) to (13); for the west-east crossing towards Paimpol from (13) to (17), a variant ofthe GR®®34is taken.

Red and white markings ofthe GR®®34.

The walk starts at Paimpol Harbour. We managed to find a parking space on Quai Neuf (the quay leading to the harbour master’s office), which was rather lucky for the late season.

(S/E) Whichever parking spot you find, walk along the harbour keeping it on your right and head north-northeast via Quai Pierre Loti. After a left-hand bend, pass a traffic light and continue straight on along Promenade Charles Pacé. Take the first street on the left, then a path on the right.
Cross straight across the Kerpalud embankment, which leads to the coastal path.

(1) Take the coastal path by turning right. When you reach Rue de Traou an Aod, turn right; after 200m, you’ll find the coastal path on your right, which leads to Chemin de la Grève. Continue straight on along Rue de Kerroc’h.

(2) When you reach the Croix Cornic, turn right, then at a Fork in the road, take the left-hand street; this continues to the left along a path that descends. Continue to the left along Rue des Pêcheurs d'Islande; at the Fork in the road, follow it to the right to arrive in front of a car park; on the left you will see the Chapelle de la Trinité. Head due south along Impasse Guillaume le Rousseau. Continue to the left and take the path on the right between numbers 6 and 8 of the cul-de-sac. After a right-hand bend, you’ll come out onto Rue de Toull Broc’h.

(3) Turn left, then turn right after No. 32 and continue along the path. It continues via Venelle du Lavoir and then Rue Pierre Loti in the Porz Even district. Follow the path to the left along Impasse de la Chapelle, which continues straight on along the coastal path as it curves to the left.

(4) Off the main route: a short round trip to Pointe de la Trinité for a magnificent view.
Continue straight on towards the north. The path then veers westwards to reach a junction.

(5) Take a short detour to the left to admire the Croix des Veuves and the view.

(6) Retrace your steps.

(5) Once back at the crossroads, take the path on the right immediately afterwards. Continue along Impasse de Traou Meur and take the first right towards the beach and Cale de Launay. The path is paved with pebbles. Pass the Maison du Parc on your left and cross the hamlet of Roc’h ar C’had to reach Chemin Pierre et Marie Curie, which you follow to the left.

(7) Turn left into Impasse Gardenn ar Spern and, after crossing the road, continue straight ahead. Pass the campsite entrance on your right, then, at the end of the path, take the path on the left. You’ll come to Route de l’Embarcadère, which you take to the left. On the right is the departure point for the ferry to Île de Bréhat. Cross the huge car park and continue along the coastal path.

(8) Turn right, then take the path on the left. Follow a track for 150m and continue along the path on the right to Pointe de Traou Plat.

(9) Continue straight on along the coastal path to reach Route de la Baie. Carry on straight along Rue du Gouern, which turns left then right to reach Loguivy harbour. Turn left onto Rue de la Jetée towards the harbour car park.

(10) After a well-deserved rest, head right along Rue du Port. At the end of the street, turn left and then, very quickly, take the path on the right.

(11) After a left-hand bend, take the path on the right. You’ll reach the oppidum known as La Roche aux Oiseaux, which offers a superb view of the mouth of the Trieux and, at low tide, the oyster beds.
Continue along the coastal path, following the Trieux Estuary to a fish farm. Keep right onto the nature trail along the Trieux.

(12) The path winds its way round the buildings of a former lighthouse and beacon school. Continue to the right to rejoin the coastal path.

(13) Take the path on the left: theGR®® markings point towards Paimpol. (If you continue straight on, theGR®® markings point towards Lézardrieux). When you reach a road, turn left for 50m and take the first road on the right. This is the Traverse de Mezou Gouez.

(14) Turn left onto the “Hent Traou Skaven” and continue straight on along this road.

(15) Turn left, then at the Fork in the road, turn right and continue along the left-hand path. At the crossroads, turn right, then turn left and take the path on the right.

(16) Turn right onto the road and 20m further on, turn left. Go round the sports ground and turn left onto Allée des Hêtres. This continues as Avenue Gabriel le Bras, which you follow all the way to a large roundabout.

(17) Turn right, then take the first alley on the left. At the end of it, turn left and immediately right into Rue des Huit Patriotes. Continue along this street to Place du Martray, which you cross by taking the street opposite on the left. At the end of this, on the left, you’ll find the harbour and Quai Morand, then Quai Neuf (S/E).

Notes

For this hike, we recommend setting off in the morning and stopping for lunch in Loguivy-de-la-Mer: at the harbour with a packed lunch, as there are very few places to eat out of season.

After (11), a more challenging section of 500 metres due to steep gradients with steps of irregular height.

a very beautiful parish-specific to Brittany hike done in 8 hours at a leisurely pace, but with 30 km on my Garmin watch, but it doesn't matter, we're not 5 km away.

One of the most beautiful hikes in the Côtes d'Armor, with an incredible variety of habitats and seascapes. Picture-postcard views that change every moment. An easy route to follow as it follows the GR 34 trail, a little steep on either side of the Roche aux Oiseaux, on the banks of the Trieux. It then climbs up onto the agricultural plateau towards Paimpol, where the tarmac returns but without too much monotony, with a path leading past farmhouses, a double-sided calvary and a mysterious village with a wash house and fountain. The landscape is so beautiful that you have to stop almost every few minutes to eat a little and drink often, justifying the eight hours spent on this route.

A very enjoyable walk. I should add that the hike can be completed in 6 hours rather than 8. This hike is best done in spring or summer to admire the magnificent colour of the water.

We wanted to prepare for the GR20 and test our equipment by hiking La Pointe de Loguivy De la Mer, splitting it into two parts.

The first part, which takes us through Anse de Paimpol and Anse de Launay, allows us to appreciate the beautiful houses lining the ocean.
Then comes our favourite part, the section overlooking the Trieux. The scenery is magnificent.

The last section, the return to Paimpol via the inland route, is not interesting, as it is a tarmac road surrounded by farmland and greenhouses.

Overall, the route is very simple, but its length makes it difficult. We were carrying full rucksacks, weighing around 12 to 14kg, and we did it in 8 hours (4 hours in the afternoon and 4 hours in the morning).

Hello,

Route completed on 7/1/2024.
A very beautiful route with stunning views of the sea and the Trieux. Well marked (thanks to the FFRP markers) and easy to follow. Several small climbs to get your heart rate up.
We started from Lézardrieux (a hotel that welcomes hikers) and reached point 13, then completed the route in the planned direction.
The route was not very busy. In January! Few breaks to start and finish during the day.
Thanks to the author,
Hervé

A superb, varied hike through beautiful landscapes. I really enjoyed walking along the Trieux Estuary. In fact, I loved everything about it. Obviously (following on from a previous comment), the return journey by road is less appealing, even though there are some pleasant paths to walk along, but you have to close the circular route :-)
The route is very easy to follow as you follow the GR34 + the alternative route.
I was practically alone on this hike on 31 October. I didn't meet any other hikers, just a few walkers... but very few.
It took me about the estimated time (around 8 hours) to complete the hike, so at an average pace with several fairly short breaks.
Truly magnificent, and well done to the author of this hike description.
Elisabeth

A beautiful hike, but a bit challenging at times because there is quite a bit of elevation gain in addition to the length.
It's interesting as long as you're walking along the coast, but then the return inland to Paimpol is not much fun. At least on the way back we saw some beautiful artichoke fields (typical of Brittany).

Hello,
Yesterday was a Sunday. A circuit with magnificent and varied views.
The trail was well marked and maintained.
Not very busy that day (Covid?), especially in the second half.
We brought our own lunch, but there are places to eat and a sandy beach in Loguivy.
Time: 8 hours including stops. Difficulty indicated: mainly due to the length of the route.

Hello,

I just wanted to correct two errors in the presentation:
- the fishermen were called Terre Neuvas (without a T)
- The festival is called the Festival du CHANT de Marin. The next one will take place from 13 to 15 August 2021. Information at http://paimpol-festival.bzh/fr/

Kind regards
