Description of the walk

Start: Park in the Rue de la Plaine Garenne car park in Erquy.
Please note: Moderator update, 04 02 2020: passage blocked by scree in (4) (see notice of Monday 02 March 2020, see Practical info below).

(S/E) Take this street up on the left, following signs for Cap d'Erquy. After 400 m, pass a crossroads which will be the junction for the return journey, and continue for 150 m.

(1) Turn left towards Lacs Bleus, continue along the path and rejoin the road.

(2) Turn right at the Lacs Bleus sign and follow the road.

(3) Turn left at the wooden barrier. Follow the path offering panoramic views of the coast. At the intersection with the same road, take a small path on the left with a fence to reach the point with the old building.

(4) Modification of itinerary: continue on the GR®, do not go down to the beach, dangerous climb.

-- At the point, turn left onto a small path leading down to the beach. Carefully negotiate the rocks, which is a little tricky but gives access to the Plage de l'Anse de Port Blanc. Go back up to the hangar and take the path on the right that leads up to the other point.

(5) There, follow the GR®34 to the left, marked Red and White. Follow it along the point. At the end of the path, turn left off the GR®° and head down to the superb Plage de Lourtuais.

(6) Climb back up the stairs, cutting across the GR® and continuing along the path, keeping to the right, to reach the Rue de la Plaine Garenne intersection. Turn left to return to the car park (S/E).

Superb walk
Magnificent scenery

But

  • The blue lakes were not blue at all (grey weather and lots of aquatic plants)
  • The route around points 3 and 4 can be a bit "sporty" at times. At point 4, the main path descends to the beach and the alternative route, which takes you back up, is poorly marked and rocky...
  • The time indication is totally underestimated given the terrain.

A superb walk around the Pointe d'Erquy, with a succession of breathtaking landscapes.
The paths are very well maintained and signposted.
The blue lakes are surprising. You wouldn't expect to find a place like this by the sea.
Lovely views of Erquy harbour from the top.
Some of the sections are a little technical, with a steep gradient in the rocks.
Good footwear is essential.
Beware of young children, as some areas can be very dangerous due to the lack of safety.
Can be done with dogs without any problems.
To be repeated without moderation.

ballade avec des points de vue superbes sommes pas descendu sur la plage car la remontée derrière le hangar aurait été peut être difficile car éboulis.
.being well shod is essential. circuit very popular on Sundays and I imagine in summer.

Indeed, point 4 where you descend to the beach is nice, but 1. To go down, it's quite steep and you don't need vertigo, and to go back up, you need trousers as there are quite a few brambles and heather. And the path is not maintained and is very narrow. Otherwise, the rest of the walk is really nice and the beach is great.

The route to the château is no longer direct. So find the path from the car park to join the GR.

A wonderful discovery of the Pointe d'Erquy
One of the most memorable walks in Brittany, as much for the diversity of the scenery as for the ease with which you can follow the route.
Be careful, be well shod and the route is difficult because of its ascents and descents.

Exactly!
I had already pointed out the danger of point 4 in March 2020.
And nothing has changed after almost 1.5 years.

Beautiful scenery; easy walking. A busy route but not a nuisance in September. Make the short diversions to the blue lakes:

A short diversions at the start via the blue lakes, which rejoins the circuit at point 3.
Some difficult sections because of the vegetation, ascent behind the Hangar
Some climbing in places to reach the beach
Watch out for the tide

Very nice walk. But don't go down to the beach (4), the one at the hangar. Descending through scree and dangerous climbing to get back up because the path behind the hangar is impassable. The site needs updating very soon.

We didn't entirely follow the path described here, but bypassed the road on side paths along the coast and on gorse-filled moorland, and didn't go down to the beach, but stayed on the path above the cliffs, as the views were magnificent, and we weren't sure whether we'd manage to get down and back up easily (the path after the shed seemed to be blocked and very steep too).
The reported scree slopes are no longer there: they've either been cleared or we didn't look in the right place, as the path was passable.
But apart from that, it's a very pleasant route in a magnificent environment between land and sea.

Magnificent tour amidst pink heather and golden gorse overlooking the turquoise sea! The moorland was beautiful in July, the views over the coast magnificent and the discovery of the lakes (more brown than blue, but well laid out with wooden walkways) surprising.we loved this tour which, in our opinion, is as unmissable as that of Cap Fréhel.
We were able to park easily and free of charge. We didn't go down to the beach, preferring to continue along the cornice because we found the view from the top even more breathtaking. I wouldn't know if it would have been possible to walk downhill, but I don't think so, as the paths are clearly marked out to avoid the moor being trampled underfoot and tourists scattered all over the place, which is a good thing: the panorama is all the more sublime for it.
