Description of the walk

The route starts in Sierentz in front of the station, where you’ll find a large car park; alternatively, you can arrive by train, as this station is served by the TER several times a day.

(S/E) Take Rue du Chemin de Fer, which is opposite the bar-PMU. Turn into the third street on the left, Rue du Printemps. At the end of this street, turn right onto Rue de l’Été. At the junction, turn left onto Rue Albert Schweitzer.

(1) At the roundabout, take the second exit onto Rue des Violettes. Cross Rue des Sorbiers, then carry on straight ahead along a track, ignoring the side paths.

(2) At the T-junction, turn left onto Werbenweg and follow it to the roundabout. Cross the roundabout, continue along Rue du 20 Novembre and cross the Saurunz.

(3) Near the fire station, take the first right onto Rue Camille Roche. Ignore a turn-off on the right and, after about 300 metres, take the first path on the left.

(4) At the end, follow the road to the left towards the village centre. After just under 100 metres, turn right onto Rue des Sources. Turn right at the pumping station.

(5) At the next junction, turn left. At the end of the track, turn right and pass under a power line.

(6) At the next junction, turn left onto a tarmac path marked with a Red Circle and a Red Triangle. At the T-junction, turn right and, after about a hundred metres, turn left.

(7) At the junction, turn right. At the next junction, turn left. Ignore a path on the left and pass under the power lines. Continue straight on (south-west) towards Stetten, the first houses of which can be seen in the distance.

(8) Cross the D21 to join Rue du Grengelberg. At the end, turn right and then right again onto Rue de Magstatt-le-Haut. At the junction (marked by a cross), continue along the path opposite.

(9) You’ll come out onto Rue des Alliés; follow it to the right. Head west-south-west, ignoring all turn-offs to the left (note there are several benches and a barbecue area available for walkers). When a path joins from the right, carry on straight ahead for about 150 metres until you reach a signpost.

(10) Then turn left and follow the signs for Helfrantzkirch and Ranspach-le-Bas (Blue Rectangle). When you reach the large oak tree (300 to 400 years old; featuring a statue of the Virgin Mary), veer left and pass close to an old bunker.

(11) At the end of the path, turn right. After a left-hand bend, head south following the blue-white-blue signposting, ignoring all side paths, and pass under some power lines.

(12) Just before a road, turn sharply left (Yellow Circle markings). Stay on the main marked path and pass close to some ponds on the right-hand side.

(13) At a three-way junction (marked by a cross), veer left and follow a stream. Ignore the bridge over the stream on the right: the signposted path then gradually turns northwards. Pass past reservoirs on the left-hand side and arrive at a junction directly beneath high-voltage power lines.

(14) Turn sharply right and follow the path alongside the stream. At the end, follow the D21 to the right for about twenty metres (cycle path) and turn left onto Rue du Vallon. Continue straight on until you reach the wayside cross.

(15) Then turn left. Follow the first path on the right. At the next junction (large stone), turn left, following the Green Circle signposts. Continue straight on (north).

(16) At the junction under the high-voltage power lines, turn right. Turn left immediately, continue north and pass under some more power lines. At the T-junction, turn right, along the edge of the woods. The path then curves to the left and descends into the woods.

(17) At the next junction, veer left and follow a small road northwards. Pass under a power line and then past a bunker on the right-hand side. About fifty metres past the bunker, when the road bends left, carry on straight ahead along a path. Immediately ignore the side paths and walk past the Rebgarten (vineyards).

(18) At the end of the track, continue along the street opposite. At the junction immediately ahead, turn left again onto Rue Nathan Katz, heading due north. At the end, turn right onto Rue du Monenberg. After about thirty metres, take a path on the left. At the end, turn right onto Rue Werben.

(19) Cross the River Saurunz and turn left into Rue de la Fontaine. Take the first right onto Rue de Paris. At the end, make the first turn left then right and follow Rue de la République. Continue straight on until you reach the junction with Rue du Maréchal Delattre de Tassigny. Then turn left to return to the station (S/E).
