Start and finish at the car park by Bartenheim Church (in the village centre, then head towards Brinckheim).
(Start/Finish) Set off along Rue Saint-Georges towards the roundabout, continue straight on towards another small roundabout, then turn left onto Rue du 19 Novembre and join Rue des Vignes. Turn right onto this street; after the last houses, turn left onto the footpath.
(1) At the first junction, turn right. When you reach a T-junction, turn left. Continue along this path to the junction at elevation 307 (lovely view of Brinckheim and the Black Forest, and, to the left, of the village of Brinckheim).
(2) Carry on straight ahead, staying on the main path; pass under the high-voltage power line to reach a T-junction. Turn right, then, after less than 100 metres, turn left. Follow the path to elevation 323.
(3) At this junction, turn left onto the main track to reach Stetten at the D21, where there is a small wayside cross.
(4) Cross the D21 and follow Rue de Grengelberg opposite; at the end of the street, carry on almost straight ahead. At the next Y-junction, turn right onto Rue de Magstatt le Haut, then continue straight on along a narrow path to reach Rue des Alliés. On leaving the village, stay on the main path which continues from the street and leads uphill. Along the way, you’ll reach a small square where you can stop and enjoy a magnificent view of the Black Forest.
(5) Continue climbing along the main path until you reach the Blue Rectangle trail (Mulhouse–Leymen). At elevation 397, turn left to quickly reach the large oak tree (unfortunately, the view is obscured by forests and maize fields).
(6) Turn left to continue along the Blue Rectangle-marked trail and join the D161.
(7) Follow it to the left to cross through Helfrantzkirch via Rue de Jettingen, passing in front of the church. Reach the D21 and cross over to take Rue des Vergers on the opposite side.
(8) After about 50 metres, at the Y-junction, leave the blue rectangular-marked trail and continue along Rue des Vergers to the left, following the red circle-marked trail. You’ll reach the Kappelen football pitch.
(9) Turn left, then leave Rue de la Forêt via the first small path on the right, which leads to Rue du Sundgau. Turn right and stay on the small tarmac road that crosses the Wurmbach and heads back towards Rue du Soleil.
(10) Leave this road by turning right to head uphill towards a small wood; at the top of the climb, you’ll reach a small path which you’ll take to the right. This runs alongside the wood and leads to the Sud Alsace Dog Boarding Kennels, passing a small cottage (Winzerhisle).
(11) Turn left and head down to Brinckheim via Rue du Chenil. Turn left onto Rue des Abeilles, then immediately right onto Rue du Rhin, and join a path on the right bank of the Muehlgraben.
(12) At Hochaloch, you can see the Muehlgraben as it bends slightly; continue on to reach another junction of paths. Follow the path on the right bank straight ahead, which ends at Rue du Cimetière and takes you back to the start (S/E).
