Description of the walk

Park in a small car park in Aas.

(S/E) Take the Chemin de Pleysse (tarmac road) which climbs gently to the right.

(1) At the antenna, turn left onto the Chemin de la Montagne Verte until you reach a trailhead on the left (elevation 916m).

(2) Follow this path as it climbs up the side of Montagne Verte until you reach a spot where there is a steep drop-off to your right. Take care with children and those prone to vertigo. Superb views of the peaks and Eaux-Bonnes.

(3) Continue to the right in a south-easterly direction and join a forest track (elevation 1197m).

(4) At the highest point of the walk, you can continue to the right towards Mont Lazive: allow an extra hour for the return journey.
Otherwise, head gently back down towards Bagès by turning left onto the road.

(5) In many places, you can leave the road and take a shortcut through the woods: look for slate signs pointing to the village of Bagès. During the descent, the ground in the woods can be slippery due to streams, so please take care!

(6) Walk through the village of Bagès and continue along the D397, Route de Bagès, until you reach a fork (elevation 615m).

(7) Turn left onto the Chemin d'Aas, which takes you back to Aas (S/E).

Notes

This guide is a copy of the one available on tourisme64.com.
This hike follows long stretches of quiet roads. If you prefer quiet, secluded paths, look elsewhere... It’s a shame, as the views are still superb!
From point (3), the drop on the right is daunting for those prone to vertigo. Watch out for children!
From the point (4), you can climb up to Mont Lazive (approx. 1 hour extra round trip).
