Departure from Laruns, car park in the Pon neighbourhood.
(S/E) Cross the Gave d'Ossau via the footbridge and turn left. After crossing the bridge over the Valentin, continue uphill to the end of the road (view of Espalungue Castle). There, turn right onto a steep path that leads to the D240.
(1) Turn right and enter Assouste (magnificent 12th-century chapel). After 150 metres, at a bend in the road, turn left onto an old path, which is steep but shaded, connecting Assouste to Aas. At the entrance to Aas, don't miss the information panel dedicated to the famous whistlers. Climb up the street to the crossroads by the church.
(2) Turn right and walk up the street towards the south-east. Once you have passed the cemetery, walk down the gently sloping road (beautiful view of the Eaux-Bonnes resort) to the bridge over the Valentin. 100 m after the bridge, on the left-hand side, a grassy path leads to the D918.
(3) Cross the road with caution, as there is constant traffic to and from Gourette. Take the Promenade Eynard. Winding its way up, the path reaches a small plateau above which stands the Butte au Trésor. The short climb is well worth the detour, as the view is breathtaking. On the way back, continue to the right to reach the old mini-golf course, then keep right on a street leading down to the town centre. Take the stairs on the left side of the town hall. They open onto the Jardins Darralde, which you cross on the left side to reach the casino esplanade.
(4) Once past the casino, take the 1,500-metre Promenade Horizontale. At the end, go down the steep road until you cross the D918 again, which you will cross with the same precautions. Join the old spa road below.
(5) Turn left towards the north-west. 600 metres further on, don't miss the viewpoint over the glacial valley that stretches north of Laruns. Walk along the entrance to the campsite.
(6) A few metres further down, turn right onto a stony path that is very slippery, especially when it rains. Take great care! At the bottom, you will see the footbridge. Return to the car park (S/E).
