The route starts from the Notre-Dame de Bois-Vert car park, above the village of La Fare-en-Champsaur.
(S/E) From the car park, head west towards the mountain. Go through a barrier and you will soon reach a crossroads.
(1) Continue along the path opposite. Walk along the right-hand side of the Fare torrent to reach it.
(2) Cross it and follow the well-marked and signposted path on the right. Climb in large zigzags through the Poligny forest.
Leave the forest and continue across vast scree slopes to reach the foothills of the mountain. Reach Roche du Midi (1,641 m).
(3) Continue the ascent via more good switchbacks. Leave the rocky outcrops behind to reach a gentler section and, after crossing a small section of forest, arrive at the shepherd's hut.
(4) Climb above the hut as best you can (in spring and summer, this is a field of globeflowers). Enter the rocky area and follow the few cairns. Find a well-marked path that leads south to the top of the ridge.
(5) Turn right until you reach point 2079 (pyramid).
(6) Enjoy the magnificent view here. Return to the ridge in the opposite direction.
(5) Continue straight ahead to the second hill, marked Coste Folle on the map.
(7) Take a faint path on the left that winds its way up this rocky slope. Re-enter the forest and continue until you reach the Pas Neuf trail junction (1780m) sign.
(8) Turn right through the forest to reach a more rugged area. Arrive at the hairpin bend at an altitude of 1568m.
(9) Be careful, as this area overlooks impressive cliffs. Take great care when crossing. You will come to an area protected by a barrier.
(10) Continue along a more comfortable path. Follow the wide bends and an almost horizontal crossing to reach the initial crossroads.
(1) Retrace your steps to return to the car park (S/E).
