La Mare à Migault and the narrow lanes starting from Chavagné

This walk takes you through the villages of La Crèche and Vouillé. You’ll follow dirt tracks and small roads, most of which are shaded. The walk passes through the village of Villeneuve. Near Bimard (in the village of Vouillé), you might spot a herd of Angora goats (at La Ferme de l’Accroche Cœur).

Description of the walk

The walk starts from the car park at Chavagné school.

(S/E) Head south. At the junction, turn left then right onto Chemin de la Mare à Migault, following it to the left. Carry straight on until you reach the pond. Continue along the narrow lanes until you reach a path.

(1) Head left until you reach Route de la Mothe. Cross it carefully and take Chemin du Plumail, slightly to the left, on the opposite side. At the next junction, take Chemin des Ferrières on the right, then turn right again at the next two junctions and continue to the next crossroads.

(2) Go straight on, ignoring the path on the right (which you will take later), then ignore the path on the left (the return route). Cross the road and continue to the next junction.

(3) At this crossroads, take the path heading west (the second from the right). Ignore all side paths until you reach the T-junction. Turn left, then right onto the road, and immediately left until the next junction.

(4) Turn left, ignore the first path on the right, follow the Lambon stream and continue to the road. Turn right until you reach the next junction.

(5) Turn onto the path on the left and head towards the junction you passed earlier.

(3) Turn right onto the road until you reach a crossroad and follow it to the right.

(6) Take the Chemin Vert on the left, pass Rue du Vieux Four (on the right) and turn left at the next junction. Go straight on at the next fork, which you passed on the way there, until you reach the next junction.

(2) Turn left and continue to Route de la Mothe.

(7) Turn left and cross the road carefully to take Chemin des Rocs on the right. Continue to the road and turn right onto the path. Ignore the first path on the right and join Chemin de la Dibe. Turn right then left to return to the school car park (S/E).

Worth a visit

Chavagné is a former commune that was incorporated into the commune of La Crèche on 23 September 1965. The village has retained its school.

At the top of Rue de La Fontaine, you’ll find the wash house. Not far away is the old temple, and heading back towards Niort, there’s a fishing pond with picnic tables.
