Description of the walk

From Darney, take the D164 towards Bains-les-Bains. Park at the Tourist Office.

Markings: Red Triangle

(S/E) Opposite the Tourist Office, go round the building to the left, clockwise, towards the children’s play area at the back. Keep to the right, at the green space behind the building, heading towards a landscaped car park. Then turn right and you’ll come out at the motorhome site. Find Rue de la Pavée.

Blue Ring signposting

(1) Follow this street to the right, then take the first path on the left (Sentier de la Côte). Continue straight on for 500 m until you reach the road (Rue des Anciens Moulins), which you follow to the left. Keep going until you reach the first path starting on the same side.

(2) Follow this path to reach a stony track.

(3) Turn right and follow the path for 650 m to reach the 352-metre mark. Turn right again and follow this path for 750 m. Ignore all turn-offs to the right and left until you reach the end of the path.

(4) Continue slightly to the right along a downhill path until you reach the D434. Turn right to cross the Bagnerot.

(5) Cross the road and head straight on to cross the Coney before turning right to follow the Canal des Vosges. Ignore the first junction to reach a second one, after crossing back over the Coney.

(6) Take the road on the right and continue to the junction.

(7) Continue left onto the Chemin Noir.

(8) Here, you can take a path through the woods, running parallel to the road. Find the D164.

(9) Head straight ahead to rejoin the old Roman road, a straight, stony track leading to the centre of the resort. You’ll come to a path running perpendicular to it.

(10) Follow it to the right, then cross back to the other side of the D164. Continue straight on until you return to Bains-les-Bains.

(11) Walk down Rue du Haut Champs, overlooking Bains-les-Bains. Cross Rue Charles Levy, then leave Rue du Général Leclerc, heading straight ahead, to walk back down the pedestrian street and reach the Tourist Office (S/E).

Worth a visit

(6) The Royal Manufactory: The largest tinware factory in the Kingdom in the 18th century, the Royal Manufactory—an industry born of wood and water—is one of the best-preserved 18th-century industrial sites in France.

The site is open daily from 9am to 7pm for visitors to explore the exhibition recounting the site’s history (290 years in 2023) and/or the Chapel, but by making a return trip from point 6.

An interesting route with a variety of scenery: villages, meadows, riversides and canals – we had a lovely time in the sunshine,
Well done to the organiser/killer.
Notes: you have to cross the motorhome car park

Please note that the route through the Manufacture is on a private road and we do not have the owner’s permission. We met the owner and he was surprised that we hadn’t asked for his permission to use this route.
