Description of the walk

Departure from the historic site of the Manufacture Royale de Bains. Free on-site parking.

(S/E) Take the access road to the manufacture, then cross the bridge over the River Coney and head towards Lock No. 32.

(1) Continue straight ahead and follow the Canal de l'Est southwards on your right.

(2) At the bridge over the Coney, continue along the towpath between the river and the canal. Reach the hamlet of La Pipée and the footbridge over the canal.

(3) Cross the canal via the footbridge. Turn left at the ruins and climb into the woods along the path, which is damp at the start, until you reach a track suitable for vehicles.

(4) Follow it to the right until you reach a three-way junction.

(5) Turn left, heading north-west, and you’ll reach a road very close to a three-way junction.

(6) Turn right for a few metres; at the three-way junction, veer left towards Les Baraques and follow the road until you find a small path leading down into the woods on the right.

(7) Take a sharp right onto this path and head down towards the south-east until you reach the tarmac road again.

(8) Continue left along this road and rejoin the route you took earlier after the bridge, at Lock No. 32.

(1) Turn left and head for the Manufacture Royale de Bains-les-Bains (S/E).

Starting from the Manufacture Royale, a circular route crosses the estate, passing by the chapel, the ice house and the woods. Following the purple fleur-de-lis markings, you then reach the small forest track known as “le Chemin Noir” by local residents. After crossing the D164, you’ll join a small path through the forest to reach the old Roman road, which descends towards the “Pont du Coney” and then onto the Voie Bleue, the canal cycle path, to return to the Manufacture Royale.

The return route follows the Ruisseau de Gruey to rejoin the Coney and return to the Manufacture Royale.
