From Lus-la-Croix-Haute, take the D505 to La Jarjatte. Just before the village, continue towards the ski resort, following the D505. At the next crossroads, leave the road to the ski resort and continue up the valley. Pass the hotel residence, cross the Torrent le Buëch and return to the car park at the end of the tarmac road.
(S/E) Take the path at the end of the car park (marked in yellow).
(1) Just after a wooden bridge over the Buech, turn left, heading north, onto a steep path, which will quickly join another path. Continue a few metres to the left, then turn onto this path, heading east, which climbs up the side of the Ravin du Fleyrard. Cross the torrent and you will reach the Cabane du Fleyrard.
(2) Begin the steep climb towards the lake. (Some sections are very steep, which explains why this section is not recommended for the descent). You will reach Lac du Lauzon, which is not particularly spectacular but is set in magnificent surroundings.
(3) Leave a path on your right and continue more or less north, then north-east, towards the bottom of a cirque and join theGR®93, which you take on the left, heading west.
You will soon reach the highest point of the day with superb panoramic views.
Begin the descent through scree, which is relatively steep in places, before reaching a grassy area with an incredibly varied flora.
(4) At the Col des Aurias, stay on theGR® which branches off to the right to go around a hillock.
Reach the Col de la Croix.
(5) Leave theGR®93, turn left at a right angle, heading south-southwest, to take a barely visible path that runs alongside and soon enters the forest, allowing you to rejoin the road 300 metres downstream from the car park.
(6) Turn left and return to the car park (S/E).
Be careful from 15 June to 15 October, as the animals will be in the mountain pastures, so don't bring your dogs, as the patous (mountain dogs) are already down in the valley with the sheep. Next time, we'll have to think bigger and aim for a higher peak. Thanks to the author and Visorando. PS: make sure you download the map beforehand, as 4G/5G and G don't really work
(I printed it out and it came in very handy)
. It's a shame that the lake is covered in peat, otherwise the hike would be superb. There's a wonderful atmosphere in this rocky cirque. Thank you for this route, the views are magnificent. We only came across four people during this period.
