From Granville town centre, turn right towards Pointe du Roc. At the French Liberation roundabout, head towards the aquarium and park nearby. The Upper Town perched on the rock is in front of you.
(S/E) With your back to the aquarium, head towards the coast, turn left onto the Promenade Marc-Châtaignier along the ramparts and cross the Square de l'Arsenal. Join Boulevard Vaufleury, turn right and walk along the old Roc barracks.
(1) Go up the stairs on the left, take the Porte des Morts, then reach the square in front of Notre-Dame Church; continue to the right, pass in front of the half-timbered house and go down Rue du Midi opposite.
At the bottom, you will reach the Grand'Porte, the former main entrance to the walled town. Turn left and leave the Maison du Roy, which houses the Musée du Vieux Granville, on your right. Turn left up Rue Cambernon; you will pass the Matignon residence.
At Place Cambernon, turn right onto Rue Notre-Dame; at no. 54, admire the Le Mengnonet mansion on your right, dating from the 16th and 18th centuries. About 50 metres further on, turn right into Rue du Marché à la Chaux and continue to Rue Lecarpentier.
(2) Take this street on the left to the end of the old walled town. On your left, you will see the Anacréon Museum of Modern Art. You will also enjoy a superb view of the lower town. At the orientation table, go down the stairs to Place de l'Isthme.
Cross it to the left, take the footbridge and then the promenade for a few metres before going back up to Place du Marché-au-Blé. Follow Rue du Nord along the ramparts, from where you can see the Chaussey archipelago.
You will reach Place du Marché aux Chevaux and its watchtower; continue straight ahead for about 50 metres, turn left into Rue Courte and follow Rue Saint-Jean to the right. At No. 3, admire the house known as "Adam and Eve" because of the neo-Renaissance figures carved on its façade.
(3) At Place des Casernes, continue straight ahead, pass through Porte Saint-Jean and continue straight ahead along Rue du Roc.
At the car park, take the passage on the left to reach the Aquarium via Boulevard Valfleury (S/E).
