Description of the walk

In Meyrargues, leave your vehicle in the car park south of the cemetery, where there are picnic tables, near the remains of the Roman aqueduct (to be discovered at the end of the hike).

(S/E) Follow the road, leaving the cemetery behind you, and at the fork, take the road on the right.

Blue and yellow markings

Further on, at a crossroads, turn left onto the path towards the historic trail and orientation table. Shortly afterwards, pass to the right of the Chapelle Mère de Dieu (modern chapel). At a T-junction, keep right, then follow the path that veers left. This will take you to a track.

(1) Follow it to the right and you will arrive at an orientation table.

No markings

Panoramic view of the village, the castle, the Durance valley and the Grand Luberon. Continue straight ahead on the downhill path and you will soon find blue markings.

Blue markings

At the fork in the path, keep left. Further down, ignore the numerous shortcuts and follow the winding path until you reach a concrete path. Turn right and follow it to reach a street.

(2) Follow it to the left, cross a stream and turn right at the remains of the Roman aqueduct. At the fork in the road, follow the shared pedestrian/cycle path on the left. You will reach a street in the town centre.

(3) Turn right, continue straight ahead at the crossroads, cross the bridge, then immediately turn left and cross the car park. At the end, turn right, continue straight ahead across Traverse Belle Fontaine and join the main street that runs through the village (Avenue de la République).

No signposts

Turn right and continue to the intersection with Rue Émile Zola, turning left.

(4) Follow this road for about 20 metres, then turn right onto Traverse du Château. This leads to Rue Vauvenargues, which you follow to the left. Further on, the street turns left and leads to Place de l'Église Saint-André. Continue to the right, then follow Traverse Saint-Pierre to the right. You will come to a street; follow it to the right until you reach the T-junction with Avenue du Château.

(5) Turn right, then left onto Boulevard de la Liquette, running alongside the cemetery. Turn right onto a path just behind the cemetery and you will arrive in front of the remains of the Roman aqueduct. Turn right to return immediately to the car park (S/E).

This route is rather pleasant and we were able to discover aspects of the village of Meyrargues that we didn't know about, as well as the little pizzeria/restaurant NAPOLI, which was "just what we needed at just the right time" with its village atmosphere and friendly welcome.

A short, pleasant walk to stretch your legs on 1 November. The cemetery car park is very large. The description is a little confusing when it comes to the difference between a trail and a path, and we hesitated several times. For the return journey, it should be specified that it starts directly from the orientation table. We didn't see it (although it is visible when you know where to look!), so we took a trail that leads away from Meyrargues and then becomes very steep. That's where we had our doubts (at least the advantage is that you get a good view of the quarry and the railway line with the train coming out of the tunnel), so you have to climb all the way back up, but since we're here to walk... We were alone most of the time. A group of four dogs passed by, which was somewhat reassuring, but there was no problem, and we didn't see the owner. Overall, we're glad we took this walk.
