Park in the Cigalons car park, on Chemin de la Campane when coming from Venelles; it is on the right immediately after the road that passes to the left under the railway line.
(S/E) Set off along the track at the bottom of the valley, heading south-east, pass under the canal then take the grassy track on the right, passing through a gate. Follow the path running parallel to the track in the valley floor until you reach a crossroads.
(1) Climb the embankment on the right. Turn right onto the track and you’ll very quickly reach a hairpin bend. Leave the track and continue towards the bottom of the valley, on the other side of the wire fence from the track you took first. Then go round the game reserves and arrive at a crossroads with wooden signposts. Head back up the track on the left, veering slightly to the right to reach Small Pass.
(2) Return to the track and continue downwards to the right. You’ll come to a DFCI water tank; stay on the track until you reach a Y-shaped path junction.
(3) Leave the track here and take a narrow path to the right to stay on the ridge.
Continue through the Aleppo pine forest; at the start of the descent, you’ll spot thefirst Parrouvier fir tree. Continue down the slope until you reach the bridge over the Old Verdon Canal.
(4) Cross this bridge and follow the canal to the left, either:
- along the canal bed, a safe route but with few views,
- along the bank, which has a few slightly vertiginous sections but offers beautiful scenery.
Cross a track and carry on straight ahead along the canal bed or on the outer bank. You’ll reach another bridge.
(5) Cross this bridge and carry on along the canal bed. Wind your way several times through the canal’s meanders.
(6) Cross the Grand Vallat. After Les Cigalons, you’ll reach a final bridge. Leave the canal here and head back down to the Les Cigalons car park (S/E), passing by the former Scouts de France premises.
