The Gueit ridge from Brignoles

A pleasant walk even in summer as it is mostly through woodland. The ridge path offers beautiful views both north and south.

Description of the walk

Coming from the east via the DN7, take the D12 at the Intermarché roundabout. After 650 m, turn right onto Avenue du Maréchal de Lattre, then turn left at the roundabout onto Chemin de Besse. 100 m further on, enter the “Les Mas du Tilleul” housing estate and continue for 500 m to reach a small car park with space for around five vehicles.

(S/E) Go through the barrier and turn left onto the red-marked path to the Chapelle Saint-Sébastien.

(1) Turn right and climb the ridge to the Rocher du Gueit orientation table.

(2) Follow the yellow-marked path along the ridge until you reach a cairn.

(3) Continue straight ahead, ignoring the path on the right which you will take on the return journey. You will reach a junction marked by another cairn.

(4) Go straight on to the end of the path, marked by a Gothic C on a rock.

(5) Turn right and follow the path downhill for 500 m.

(6) When you reach the first house, turn right onto a path that climbs uphill (two wooden walkways have been installed, apparently for mountain bikes).

(4) Turn left back onto the ridge track for 500 m until you reach the next junction (cairn).

Head down the yellow-marked path on the left which runs along the ridge. At the track junction, keep to the right and descend for 800 m to the small car park (S/E).

Notes

The route between the Saint-Sébastien Chapel and the Rocher du Gueit is quite rugged and requires good walking boots. It can be recognised by the tracks of earth on the rocks.

Between points (6) and (4), two wooden walkways appear to have been built for mountain bikes but can be bypassed. However, caution is advised.

Worth a visit

The path between the start and the Théâtre de Verdure is dotted with information boards about the surrounding vegetation.

A lovely two-hour hike leading to the heights of Brignoles.
We did the walk a few days after it had rained. The last long descent was a bit dangerous because it was in the bed of a stream.

A very beautiful, challenging hike, a little technical, but the 360-degree view makes you forget all the effort.
We even crossed paths with a tortoise on the ridge line. It was pure joy, despite an early start in the sweltering heat.

A lovely little walk, accessible and suitable for everyone.
The weather in early May was perfect and we had a lovely afternoon just 10 minutes from home.
Thank you for this route and the directions.
Best regards

A lovely, easy walk, with just a short climb at the start of the ridge. Lovely views. The chapel is very simple.
