The starting point for this hike is located at a place called Els Pontets (a sort of aqueduct) near Crevillent. This spot is situated outside the town, about 2 km along Rue Molins in Crevillent, a road you must therefore take.
To get to this starting point by car, please see the “Practical Information” section below.
(S/E) From the car park, head back towards the road.
(1) Leave the road, and at a building take a small path to go round the left-hand side of it. Watch your step to avoid falling into any holes. Then go round the left-hand side of the wall, and a little further on turn left.
(2) Keep to the left and climb up. Follow a few cairns. Reach the ridge and follow it to the right. It offers magnificent views over the valley. Care should be taken. Further on, carefully navigate an area with holes and reach the foot of a rock face.
(3) There is a rope to help you, but the crossing is not particularly difficult. Climb a little to reach the other side of the mountain (on a different face).
(4) You’ll reach the summit of Alt de les Moreres at an altitude of 391 metres. Continue and take the path on the left.
(5) Follow the path along the cliff edge.
(6) Cross a small bridge and head left into the rocks.
(7) At the fork, take a short detour to the left towards the summit of El Frare.
(8) At the summit, there is a stunning drop-off overlooking the valley. Head back down to the junction.
(7) Head down to the left.
(9) Reach the bottom of the Barranco de la Garganta and turn left.
(10) Enter the ravine a little further up, as standing water at the end of the ravine means you have to take a short detour to find a dry spot. This detour may be longer or shorter and easier or more difficult depending on rainfall. In any case, you must enter the ravine and follow it.
(11) When you reach the middle of the field, go round it, keeping to the left. Head in such a way as to reach the road that you can see ahead of you.
(12) Take the tarmac road and follow it all the way back to Els Pontets (S/E). Remember to look back at the impressive face of El Frare, which you have just come from.
