Description of the walk

On the D23, park on the left at the Carrefour de Grande Brèche. Junction point between theGR®®37and theGR®®39.

:Red and white markings for theGR®® 37 and 39

(S/E) Head south-west into the forest. Ignore a path on the right and follow theGR®® which veers south. Cross a forest track and continue straight on. Walk for about a hundred metres.

No further markings

(1) Let theGR®® head off to the right and turn left. After a few metres, amongst the trees on the left, you will see two standing stones.
Cross a stream and continue eastwards (path not shown on IGN maps). Cross a forest track and continue straight ahead. Keep heading eastwards until you reach another forest track.

(2) Cross it diagonally to the right and take the path (hidden in May 2019 by a pile of logs). At the end of the path, turn right and rejoin the track (a short detour through the woods is not essential but avoids a bit of tarmac). Follow the track to the left until you reach the Carrefour Saint-James.

(3) After passing through the gate, turn onto the path on the left before the road. After crossing a stream, you’ll reach a wider path.

:Red and white markings forthe GR®®37

Head left and follow the Ruisseau de Moroval.

(4) Follow theGR®® as it turns right to climb, then descends, and cross the path junction straight ahead.
Continue to the mineral spring (a short detour off theGR®®). See photo.

(5) Retrace your steps for 50m and take the path on the left. Continue through the forest with the stream on your left. Cross it and follow the path as it veers north.

(6) Caution: Crossing this stream may prove difficult depending on the water level, as there is no assistance for crossing.
At the end of the path, turn left and continue straight on to reach the car park (start/finish).

Signposting is very limited, so it’s a good thing you can rely on the app (provided you have a signal; download the route to use it offline). The section between 5 and 6 is a real slog, with paths that are barely visible, cluttered with dead wood and shrubs cut across the way.
It’s a shame, as the route is lovely and a real gem.

A lovely, fairly varied walk.
The section along the old aqueduct (points 1 to 2) is less interesting.
At the end of winter (21/03), the end of the route was a bit muddy... I can’t imagine what it’s like after a spell of rain!

A lovely walk to enjoy the forest. A pleasant, easy route; the paths are quite wide, though they narrow slightly and are less well-cleared over a 1km stretch. No trouble crossing the streams at the moment!
