Around the Haute Sève in the Saint-Aubin-du-Cormier national forest

The route is mainly through woodland and is not particularly difficult. The walk is suitable for children as it presents no significant danger. However, pushchairs cannot be used along the entire route due to the narrowness of certain sections.

Description of the walk

Car park: Grande Brèche junction on the D23; parking available south of the forest road.

Red and white markings for theGR®37and 39

(S/E) Leave the car park and head towards the forest road leading to the car park. Just before the road, take the forest path on the left.
Continue along this path until you reach a junction with a road.

(1) Cross the road and continue straight ahead.
You can see a menhir on the left, amongst the trees. A second menhir is further on, amidst the greenery.
At the fork, turn right, heading west. Ignore a path on the left.
Follow the path as it bends to the left, then cross a road and continue straight ahead.

(2) Cross a wide path. This is the old narrow-gauge railway line (Ille-et-Vilaine railway) that linked Liffré to Antrain.
Continue straight ahead to reach the D92 road.
Follow it to the left for 50m, then take the road to the right and very quickly the path to the left.
Continue to the next crossroads.

No further signposting

(3) TheGR® continues to the right.
Follow the road furthest to the left. Cross the D92 once again at a place called "Le Couet" and continue straight on.
At a left-hand bend, continue straight on along the path, heading east. Reach the Jubeauderies crossroads.

(4) Turn left onto the road and follow it for 350m. Turn right onto the forest track and follow it to the end.

(5) Continue straight ahead. After a left-hand bend, turn right onto a straight forest track.
Go straight across the Charrière Fleurie crossroads.
Continue northwards to the barrier; the car park is on the left (S/E).

I found the document available to download and print from the website very useful.

However, the description of the start of the walk misled us as to the direction.
The rest was very good.

A hike undertaken in the rain on an August day. The trail was therefore muddy in places and is likely to be even muddier outside the summer months.
We followed the route exclusively using GPS, so it was straightforward.
It’s well worth a visit as the St Aubin du Cormier forest is very pretty, with a variety of tree species. The final stretch along a very quiet road isn’t a problem.

A lovely, easy walk in the Saint-Aubin forest – even more pleasant than the one in Rennes.

A forest walk that’s not particularly interesting unless you absolutely love the forest. No views, no notable sights. It could be a chance for a good walk in the countryside, but on top of that, the place is swarming with huge mosquitoes to the point where you don’t even dare stop for a picnic. To top it all off, three people out of about fifteen found a tick clinging to their skin the next day. In short, as far as I’m concerned, I wouldn’t go back there a second time.
