Description of the walk

Start from the Champ de Foire car park in Leugny (along the Ouanne).

(S/E) Walk along the car park to exit at the opposite end of the Grande Rue into the Ruelle des Mulets. At the crossroads, facing the road, turn left into Rue de l’Église Saint-Martin (D125 towards Chastenay). Walk past the cemetery.

(1) Cross the D125 and turn into the first path on the right. Head uphill and enter the woods.

(2) Shortly afterwards, turn left. Ignore a path branching off to the right, then turn right at the next one. Continue along this main route, leaving the branches on the right, until you reach a crossroads with a path branching off at a 45° angle to the right and a path turning at a right angle.

(3) Take the latter; this section is slightly uphill untilthe second T-junction. At this junction, turn right and head uphill.

(4) Turn left and start heading downhill to reach a four-way junction. Go straight on. Enter a narrow path lined with hedges. This descent is quite steep (route not marked on IGN maps).

(5) Just before the end of the descent, turn right onto a path that winds through an open garden. Stay on this path, which has steps and a handrail, to reach the wash house on the left (just after the path that climbs to the left). Walk alongside it and head towards the church with the old weighing area. Go down to the right, cross the road and turn left for about 50 metres.
Take the street on the right towards Ouanne. Follow it straight up until you come to a path.
Take this and head uphill to cross straight through the hamlet of Chicorneau.

(6) Head straight on along this road for about 400m until you come to two paths crossing at right angles.

(7) Turn left and head straight down to reach a cross-path.

(8) Turn right and follow this path lined with cereal crops. Continue until you reach the first houses of Les Granges; the path becomes tarmac. Follow it, keeping the road on your left, and cross the Ouanne. Pass the Moulin des Granges on your left and reach the Chapelle Saint-Marc.

(9) Cross the D950 with care. Head up the track opposite. It soon turns into a path. At the T-junction, turn left. Continue along this route, leaving the first path on your right. You’ll reach a crossroads (the path opposite is overgrown, October 2019).

(10) Turn left and you will come out onto a small road.

(11) Turn left and follow the road for about 400m. Turn left onto a wide, grassy path bordered by a hedge on the left. You will reach a road (D950).

(12) Given the layout of the area, turn right without crossing the road. Walk for about 50 metres until you find yourself facing a path running perpendicular to the road.
Cross carefully and take this path. Cross the ford via the bridge. You will reach the cemetery.

(1) Turn right, keeping to the right-hand verge. At the crossroads, go down to the right into the street you took at the start (S/E).

Also worth noting is the cattle weighbridge in front of Chastenay church.
