Description of the walk

Access: from Le Thillot, follow the D486 towards Le Ménil. In Le Ménil, after the church, continue for 50 m and turn right at the restaurant "Les Sapins". Follow the signs for "parcours sportif" for about 2 km at the bottom of the valley, then the road climbs up to the left and leads to a car park with a closed chalet.

Start: car park at the fitness trail (Chalet Tutur).

(S/E) Go down to the start of the car park and climb the stony path on the left above (sign for the fitness trail). Head towards the fitness trail on your right, following the blue signposts. Pass the workshops and follow the forest path of the fitness trail.

After 200 metres, at exercise 4, continue on the path that climbs to the left, following the blue sign and the sign for "Itinéraire modifié" (route changed). Climb up the forest path of the fitness trail, pass exercise 7, followed by a large bend, and you will arrive at the back of the Chapelle de Pitié (usually open). Turn around and you can admire the view of Le Ménil and the summit of La Rouauche topped by a pylon, with the Tête des Renards on your left.

(1) Continue along the path and you will immediately come to a crossroads.

(2) Continue straight ahead (Chevalet Bleu) until you reach an intersection about 40 metres away.

(3) Follow the blue signpost on the left towards the climbing rock.

(4) At the next intersection, if you wish, turn left to see stone sculptures that serve as a picnic area (nice view of the Col du Ménil). Retrace your steps.

(4) Take the Chevalet Bleu signposted path on your left and pass the climbing rock. Continue to the next junction. Then turn right (Chevalet Bleu), go downhill and you will soon reach a fork.

(5) Then turn right (leaving the Chevalet Bleu signpost on your left). You will soon reach a dirt track. Follow it downhill (ignore a forest track that goes uphill). After about 300 m, you will come to the intersection you passed on the way out.

(3) Continue straight ahead for about 40 metres.

(2) At the crossroads, turn right onto a path that descends. Pass workshop 8 and follow the fitness trail downhill to the Chalet Tutur car park (S/E).

Great for kids because there's a fitness trail, so you can stop and rest, but the climb is a bit steep at the beginning and be careful at the end of the walk, the last 100 metres before you get to the car park, because it's very steep and slippery if you don't have good shoes.
