La Boire Torse and the banks of the Loire at Anetz

This pleasant route initially follows an old branch of the Loire known as the Boire Torse. It then crosses the Grande Prée de Varades before running alongside the Loire for several kilometres. It presents no difficulty as it is completely flat.
If necessary, you can replace the path along the banks of the Loire with the Loire à Vélo route, which is well signposted.

Description of the walk

The route starts from the car park at the Salle Polyvalente de la Cour, Rue du Port Arthur, south of the village of Anetz

(S/E) Leave the car park onto Rue du Port Arthur and turn left. At the next stop sign, turn left and then take the first small road on the right. A little further on, take the track running parallel to this road, signposted Chemin de la Boire Torse. Cross the first road you come to, continue straight ahead and you will arrive at a place called La Grange.

(1) Where the path joins a small road, continue to the right. A few metres further on, it becomes a gravel track.

(2) At the next junction, continue straight ahead. Shortly afterwards, leave the track on your left. At the next crossroads, continue straight ahead. Pass the next tracks on your right and left until the track turns at a right angle, at the wooden sign for “le Pont du Gué”.

(3) Follow this bend. When you come out onto a small road, continue straight ahead. At the next junction (road and paths), continue straight ahead on the road until you reach the small wooden sign “la Boire aux Blin et le Cody”.

(4) At this bend, take the path on the right. You’ll be walking in the open here as there are no hedges. After a stand of young poplars, the path veers to the left. You’ll then be walking on tarmac. At the next junction, take thefirst road immediately on the right and head towards the Boire Torse.

(5) Pass the Boire Torse (it may not be very visible if the water level is low) and, at the next bend, at the Fork in the road, take the farm track on the right, then the next one on the left towards a poplar grove. Continue and ignore the tracks to your right and left. When you reach the road, cross the railway line via the underpass and you will immediately arrive at Bois Vert.

(6) Follow the road as it curves to the right. On leaving the hamlet, after number 21 (Bel Abord sign), take the path on the left to reach the Loire.

(7) Immediately, turn right onto the small path under the trees. Pass Port de Breluce. Continue along the path. Ignore the small path on the right marked with a yellow sign and continue straight on theGR®3E. A little further on, near the houses, turn right to reach the road.

(8) Follow it to the left and then pass the hamlet of La Rougeaudière.

(9) Further on, at the right-angled bend, at the sign for “La Bimboire”, continue straight on along the dead-end track and follow the Loire along the path. You will arrive at Les Cosniers.

(10) Continue along the path beside the Loire until you reach La Chaussée.

(11) The route continues along the Loire à Vélo cycle route, then, very soon, turn left onto the small path.

(12) When you reach the wooden sign for “Le bras du Bernardeau”, take the path on the right to rejoin the Loire à Vélo route, which you should follow to the left along a tarmac path running alongside the railway line. It very quickly turns into a sandy track.

(13) At the first underpass on your right, cross to the other side of the railway line and follow the road immediately on your right. Further on, pass Rue de la Vendée on your left and follow Rue de la Rafardière. Then turn left off the road before the house at number 216.

(14) At the next junction, leave Rue de l’Ébeaupin on your left and continue straight on along Rue du Renaudeau. Then pass the streets and paths on both your left and right until you reach Rue du Port Arthur, which you take on your right. This will lead you to the car park (S/E).

Hike taken on the morning of 28 May 2025.
Sunny weather but not too hot.
Shaded path except between km 4 and km 6.
A very beautiful stretch between km 6 and km 12 along the Loire
The final section, from km 12 onwards, isn’t great compared to the rest.
The big advantage of this walk: it’s flat.
Took just under 3 hours to complete.
I’ll definitely do it again, but in the opposite direction.

We went on this walk on Sunday 28 August 2023; we really enjoyed the shaded sections and the banks of the Loire, and we didn’t come across many other people.
A peaceful and relaxing walk, simple but extremely pleasant.
We highly recommend it.
