Worth a visit

Old mine chimneys: 1 km from Pré Bellanger stand the chimneys of the former
anthracite mines, which closed in 1930. In 1848, 640 miners worked here, out of the 1,000 employed
in the Mayenne. They went on a mass strike in 1850 – a first!

Church: Built in the 12th century, it is dedicated to Saint Gervais and Saint Protais. It contains beautiful
17th-century tuffeau altarpieces, as well as murals, including the ‘Dict des trois morts et
the Three Living’ (1585), the only one of its kind in Mayenne.

Château du Coudray, St Denis du Maine: A former manor house extended in the 18th century and subsequently restored in the 19th, it is partially surrounded by a moat. Built of local stone with tuffeau stone window and door frames and a slate roof, it has been listed as a historic monument since 1985.

The estimated time was 2 hours 20 minutes. It took us 1 hour 45 minutes… without rushing! The sign in the village says 1 hour 50 minutes!
A bit too many roads… but very quiet ones!
