Park in the car park at La Cropte church.
(S/E) On the church square, with the church behind you, turn right onto Rue de la Vaige. After about 200 m, stay on the path that runs alongside the pavement and turn right onto the D573 (signposted Saint-Denis-du-Maine / La Chesnaie Leisure Centre). Follow this road for 300 m, then turn left at the first junction at a place called La Trotellière. Immediately after turning left, a tree-lined path branches off to the right; take this path. After just over 500 m, pass a path on the right and continue straight on for a further 500 m. There, a path (please note: not shown on the map) branches off to the right.
(1) Take this path to the right and follow it for about 800 metres until you reach a junction with another path.
(2) There are two options:
- either turn right to join the ‘Paysages et patrimoine – St Denis du Maine’ route
- or follow the route description and turn left onto the track, continue straight on for about 700 m, then turn left at the second junction. Continue straight on for about 1 km, passing the hamlet of La Grande Poterie, until you reach a junction with a larger tarmac road (D166).
(3) Turn left onto the D166, then right at the first junction 100 m further on, just after the kilometre marker on the right-hand side of the road; look out for signs for La Saulaie, La Petite Loge, La Masselière and La Brulaie. Continue along this road until you reach a junction with another road, 1.3 km further on, at a place called Le Petit Buru.
(4) At the junction, turn left and carry on straight ahead until you reach the junction with the D166. Turn right and carry on straight ahead to reach the village of La Cropte and its church (S/E).
An interesting walk. We took a detour, extending the route to the lake at St Denis du Maine. Total distance: 12 km
