La Chanteraine

This walk will allow you to explore the village of Villefranche with its narrow streets and church, as well as the two small lakes set in their beautiful green surroundings. Don’t forget to visit the highest point in Villefranche towards the end of the walk, where you can enjoy a stunning view between the (7) and the (8). Ideal for a family outing.

Description of the walk

The start is in the car park next to the former doctor’s surgery.

(S/E) Head north for a few metres to reach the D943 without crossing it. Go up to the left for a few metres, then, after passing the bakery on your right, cross to the right with care and head up opposite via Allée du Docteur Gauthereau (a path between the trees). Opposite the town hall, turn left and head towards the fire station. Turn right for a few metres, then immediately take a wide path on the right-hand side which soon leads to a four-way crossroads.

(1) Take the path on the left for a few metres and join the D 18 without crossing it. Head left along the D 18 until thesecond road on the right. Cross to the right and head straight ahead down Rue des Forgerons, positioning yourself opposite number 2 on the right just before the next road on the right.

(2) Go up the steps on the left which lead to the D 943. Follow it to the left and continue to the crossroads. Cross the D18 and, 10 metres further on, cross the D943 to the right and head straight ahead, slightly to the left, along Rue de l’Église Saint-Eutrope until you reach Rue de Charny.

(3) Cross it and head right for about 50 metres, then take Rue Adeline on the left until you come close to the D943. Take the path on the left, keeping the hedge on your left. At the end, opposite the recycling centre, head right for a few metres to reach a T-junction. Turn left onto a wide, slightly sloping sandy path. At the bottom, turn right and join a road.

(4) Turn left onto Route de Badelan until you reach the D18. Cross it with great care and continue straight ahead for about 20 metres, then turn left and rejoin the D18, keeping well to the right-hand verge until you reach the entrance to the gantry on the right. Turn right and continue straight on for about 50 metres until you reach thefirst barrier.

(5) Pass through it on the left-hand side, keeping the two ponds on your right. Continue straight ahead and, at the very end, turn right just before thesecond barrier. Turn left then right to join a tarmac road running alongside the water treatment plant on your right. Shortly afterwards, turn left and continue to the next junction.

(6) Turn right and follow the tarmac road to the end. From there, continue straight on along a path, then after about 600 metres take the next path on the left which climbs and joins a road.

(7) Turn left through the hamlet of Les Robins until the end of the tarmac road. Continue straight ahead along the path that continues from there, passing shortly afterwards near the satellite dish on your right, and continue downhill to the road.

(8) Turn right onto Rue de la Chantereine and join the D943. Cross the D943 to the right with care, then head up to the right, keeping well to the left-hand verge, until you reach the next path on the left.

(9) Turn left onto a track and continue for about 1 km until you reach a road. Take this road to the left, crossing just after the hamlet of La Grande Ferme on your right, and continue for about 1 km until you reach the next track on the right.

(10) Take this track up to the right and continue to the top, where you will reach Rue du Château. Turn left onto this street and follow it to the end. Continue straight ahead, passing thefirst school on your right, then immediately afterwards turn left down the footpath until you reach the D943. Turn left for a few metres, then cross to the right to reach the starting point opposite. (S/E)
