The Blue Witch’s Walk

Famous for its Witches’ Festival, Fillières also offers lovely walking trails. This one combines a walk through the forest with country lanes. It runs alongside the River Crusnes and offers you peaceful spots to recharge your batteries in the heart of nature.

Description of the walk

Park your car in front of the cemetery. The walk starts at the Fillières civil cemetery. A map of the trails is provided on the back of the map of the Battle of Fillières.

(S/E) Opposite the cemetery, head north-east along the footpath on your left, which runs between the chalet and the field. It is marked in blue.

(1) At the wayside cross on your left, take the country lane to the right before the large grey house.

(2) Enter the woods, following the blue markings, and head generally southwards.

(3) Take the path on the left before you reach Crusnes.
Follow it to the main road, following the blue signposts.

(4) Cross the road and follow it for a few metres before heading down to the left to the water retention basin. Walk alongside it, then continue along the forest track, following the blue markings.

(5) Leave the woods at Prés Lamoureux and walk alongside the copses on your left until you reach the country lane. Turn left onto this country lane, which leads back to the village.

(6) At the crossroads at the entrance to the village, cross the Grande Rue and head towards the small square in front of you.
Then turn left onto Chemin de la Cure and return to the original crossroads by the wayside cross.

(1) Continue along the path opposite in the opposite direction and head for the cemetery (S/E).

A lovely walk, especially the section along the Crusnes. According to my GPS watch, the walk is 8.2 km long, not 6.06 km as stated on your app. However, this difference in no way detracts from the quality of the walk

The start of the walk is hard to find...
Leave the town hall on your right, with the church behind you, turn left, then turn right at the junction; the cemetery is a little further on.
The sign for the walks is on the back of the information board, in front of the cemetery (you need to have your back to the cemetery to see it).

(2): do not cross the road

(3): The path is hard to find; there are no markings at the junction.
If you have walked down to La Crusnes, head back up and take the first path on your right.

Caution: muddy path, tall grass (wear long trousers and use tick repellent!)

(4) Dangerous crossing; cars come round the bend at high speed. Watch out for children.
If you’re walking along the crash barrier, before crossing, watch out for the holes left by the old boundary markers (50 cm deep, hidden by the grass) – they’re perfect traps for your feet!

The walk has been somewhat forgotten by everyone in the village...

The locals gave us a very warm welcome! One person helped us find our way back near point (4) and even dropped off a pair of glasses we’d lost on the path in our car… How kind! Thank you! ;-)

Please note that there is a military cemetery (“FILLIERES National Necropolis”) and a civilian cemetery. The walk starts at the civilian cemetery, at the end of Rue de l’Anglisson, 100–150 metres from the church.
A lovely walk. You can also go for a short jog.
