Description of the walk

From Saint-Méloir-des-Ondes, head to Château Richeux, at a place called Le Buot, and park on the path running along the beach.

(S/E) Head out onto the foreshore towards Cancale and continue along the beach until you reach the seafront houses.

(1) When you reach the end of the quay, climb the concrete ramp and head towards Rue du Quai Jacques Cartier. Walk along this street, then through the port of La Houle with its restaurants and shops, and continue on to the Pointe des Crolles lighthouse.

(2) Return to the end of the quay.

(1) Follow Quai Jacques Cartier for a few metres, then turn left onto Route de la Corniche (GR® 34), which is a one-way uphill road. Watch out for traffic. Pass the marine farm on your left, then walk alongside a property on your right with a wall and a fence running alongside the road.

(3) At the end of this wall, leave the road and take the path on the left, which begins with a flight of steps (private property – walkers welcome). Enjoy the view of the Moulin du Tertre à la Caille (without its sails) to the south. The path winds its way along the top of the cliff before joining a cross-path. Turn left and continue until you reach the 90° bend to the right.

(4) Carry on straight ahead and reach the beach.

(5) Take in the view of Beauregard Castle, cross the beach, then, a few dozen metres further on, rejoin theGR® path which starts behind the two benches facing the sea.

(6) When you reach the blocked path, head down onto the shore to reach the car park (S/E).

Worth a visit

In Cancale, the seafront is brought to life by its many restaurants, shops selling regional produce and oyster-tasting stalls run by the bay’s oyster farmers.

We set off from Saint-Benoit des Ondes, following the coastline – a lovely walk on these first beautiful days of the season. Some lovely views. One to do again.
